Route 66 Road Trip Day 16 🚗 | 9 Spots in Oklahoma City
Day 16 of our Route 66 road trip was all about exploring Oklahoma City—here’s where we went! 📍 1. Milk Bottle Grocery This is a historic site, and the real star here is the giant milk bottle on top of the building 🥛! It’s a classic Route 66 photo op—simple, nostalgic, and perfect for marking the spot. Just a quick stop to snap a pic and soak up the retro vibe. 📍 2. Golden Dome Bank Building Right next to the Milk Bottle Grocery! That shiny golden dome is super eye-catching ✨—it glows nicely in the sun. We didn’t get to check if the inside is open to visitors, but even the exterior is worth a look for its unique design. 📍 3. First Presbyterian Church of Oklahoma City We passed by this church while driving, so we pulled over for a quick check-in ⛪. It has a quiet, elegant vibe—nothing too flashy, but a nice little detour to appreciate some local architecture. 📍 4. Oklahoma State Capitol Finding a parking spot here was such a hassle—we wound around so many streets before finally spotting one 🅿️! But it was worth it: the interior is beautifully symmetrical and super grand. There’s a fancy museum inside (with cool state history exhibits) and even a restaurant—great if you want to combine sightseeing with a bite. 📍 5. First Americans Museum This is a huge museum dedicated to Indigenous cultures 🛖! The exhibits are super detailed—even if you only browse casually, you’ll learn so much about Indigenous history, traditions, and art. We loved it so much we already want to come back for a deeper dive! 📍 6. 45th Infantry Division Museum The outdoor display alone is awesome—rows of military vehicles (tanks, jeeps, etc.) that look so imposing and cool 🚜! Inside, the museum has tons of rich historical exhibits about the 45th Infantry Division’s role in wars. History buffs will definitely love this spot. 📍 7. National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum As the name suggests, it’s all about cowboy culture 🤠! From vintage saddles and rodeo gear to Western art, it’s a fun deep dive if you’re into the American West. If cowboys and frontier history interest you, don’t skip this. 📍 8. Lighthouse (The Light House) We got lucky—we arrived right at dusk 🌆! There are lots of restaurants nearby and plenty of parking, so we could walk around and admire the lighthouse from different angles. We grabbed dinner nearby to wait for the night view, and wow—the lighthouse lights up with three colors that alternate. It looked so pretty against the night sky! ✨ 🍽️ 9. Redrock Canyon Grill Pro tip: You might need to make a reservation! The atmosphere here is lovely, the service is attentive, and the food was delicious 😋—we totally recommend it. The perfect way to end a busy day of sightseeing.
