Route 66 Road Trip Days 17 & 18 🚗 | 7 Spots in Oklahoma
📍 1. El Reno Sign Nothing fancy here—just a quick photo stop to mark we passed through El Reno 📸. A simple check-in spot for Route 66 completists! 📍 2. Giants Display These are flat, life-sized "giants" made of cardboard 🧱—only one side is designed, so they’re pretty basic. If you take the wrong turn, you might even miss them entirely! Just a fun little quirky spot, not a must-see. 📍 3. General Thomas P. Stafford Air and Space Museum This museum is all about General Thomas P. Stafford, the commander of Apollo 10 🚀. It’s quite large, but no need to worry about getting lost—just follow the numbered order on the map, and you’ll cover everything perfectly! The exhibits start with the Wright Brothers’ aircraft history and trace the development of aerospace technology—super comprehensive and fascinating. Don’t miss the video about people from different countries building airplanes either; it’s surprisingly engaging and unique! ✈️ 📍 4. Cotton Boll Motel Sign This is the remains of an old motel—just the sign is left as a relic of Route 66’s past 🛎️. Another quick check-in spot to snap a photo of this piece of highway history. 📍 5. Route 66 Transportation Museum This doubles as a visitor center, and it’s home to one of the largest Route 66 signs you’ll see 🚦! There are also a few other small museums nearby, so you can visit them all in one go—super convenient for packing in more Route 66 culture. 📍 6. Washita Battlefield National Monument This site tells the history of wars that took place on this land ⚔️. The visitor center has artifacts used by Indigenous peoples in the past, and the staff are super helpful—they’ll gladly answer any questions you have! There’s also a short hiking trail nearby 🥾, perfect for a casual stroll. Along the trail, you’ll see colorful ribbons tied to trees—these are placed by descendants for blessings. Out of respect, please don’t take photos of them 🙏. 🏕️ 7. Skipout Campground An amazing free campground right by a lake 🌊! At night, you can see the Milky Way clearly in the sky—stunning for stargazing 🌟. There are plenty of spots available, and you can even bring your own boat to go boating on the lake. A great place to unwind after days of driving! #DailyBitsPLOG #Route66 #Route66WinterRoadTrip #CrossUSARoadTrip #TravelLin #Oklahoma #AmericanLife #USATravel
