Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail

✨This was an attraction I had researched and noted earlier, but when I checked the day before, I discovered it would be closed on New Year's Day. So, I hadn't planned to visit—it was only by chance that I spotted the tourism sign along the road from Birmingham to Montgomery. 🩷This historic trail commemorates the 87-kilometer route of the 1965 march led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights activists. Their courageous journey from Selma to Montgomery played a pivotal role in advancing the passage of the Voting Rights Act, a landmark legislation that prohibited racial discrimination in voting. ✔️The museum is strategically located at the midpoint of the 54-mile (87 km) route, making it an ideal spot for reflection and education about this significant chapter in American history. Although the site was closed for the holiday, we still took the opportunity to walk around the exterior, read the informational plaques, and capture photos of the memorial grounds. The quiet atmosphere under the winter sky added a layer of solemnity to the experience, allowing us to contemplate the courage and determination of those who walked this path nearly six decades ago. #Montgomery#Alabama#travelguide#Montgomeryguide
