Serbia 🇷🇸 A Chapter of History No Chinese Should Forget
1️⃣ 🇨🇳 Chinese Embassy in Former Yugoslavia On May 8, 1999, during the Kosovo War, NATO bombers struck the Chinese Embassy in Former Yugoslavia. Three Chinese journalists were killed, and over 20 others were injured. The explosion reduced the building to ruins. In front of the bombing site stands a memorial erected by the people of former Yugoslavia: "In grateful remembrance of the support and friendship of the People's Republic of China during the difficult times of the Serbian people, and in eternal memory of the martyrs who perished." To this day, fresh flowers are always placed at the memorial by Chinese visitors who come to pay their respects. Even before approaching the monument, the weight of history brings tears to one's eyes. If possible, bring a bouquet of flowers (you can buy them in the city the day before). 📍 Transport: Search "Chinese Embassy in Former Yugoslavia" on Google Maps (reachable by bus). 2️⃣ 🇨🇳 NATO Bombing Ruins From March 24, 1999, NATO conducted 78 days of bombing on the former Yugoslavia, killing over 3,500 people, injuring 12,500, and causing at least $30 billion in property damage. Government buildings, factories, hospitals, and TV stations were destroyed—including the Chinese Embassy. To commemorate this humanitarian tragedy, Serbia preserved some of the bombed buildings in their ruined state. Today, amid bustling streets, Chinese visitors still seek out these ruins to remember this unforgettable history. 📍 Transport: The ruins and the embassy are not in the same location! Since there’s no clear address online, I’ve marked it on the map—search "Ministarstvo..." on Google Maps (near a bus stop, look for the giant Serbian female soldier billboard). 🇨🇳 This is a history no Chinese should forget. If you visit Belgrade, Serbia, make sure to visit these sites—to remember, to mourn. 24 years later, the smoke over the embassy has long dissipated, but the fire in Chinese hearts still burns. We will respond with strength and determination, proving to the world—the Chinese people never yield! Finally, may there be peace and love in the world. ❤️ Join me in exploring the Balkans! ☀️ The world is vast—let’s see it together. 🌍 ➖ Follow for daily travel updates. #SerbiaTravel #History #VisaFree #China #NeverForget #Serbia #TravelShare
