Single-Day Hike: San Bernardino Peak 🥾⛰️
Originally planned to go camping and hiking in the Sierra Nevada over Labor Day weekend, but tested positive for COVID a few days before departure 😷. Didn’t dare to camp at 4,000 meters with the virus, so I gave myself a break and switched to a single-day hike in Southern California after mostly recovering by Sunday. 💪✨ This time, I tackled San Bernardino Peak – the last one I hadn’t done from the SoCal Six-Pack of Peaks challenge! I also added an extra 2 miles to climb San Bernardino East Peak while I was at it. 🏔️➡️🏔️ Started from Angelus Oak – this trail is also known as the "Sand to Snow" route. Since I added an extra peak, the total distance came to 29 km with 1,550 m of elevation gain – basically similar to San Gorgonio! 📏💦 When hiking in Southern California, always carry plenty of water! This time I brought 3L and drank 2.5L. Most of the trail goes through burned forest areas – very sunny ☀️, but there were also lots of wildflowers along the way 🌼. As of August 31st, the only water refill point on the trail – Limber Pine Creek – still had flowing water that could be filtered. However, I’ve heard this water source is seasonal, so make sure to check conditions before you go! 🗺️💧 #HikeTheWorld #LATravel #SixPackOfPeaks #SoCalHiking #PeakBagging #DayHike #BurnRecovery #WildflowerSeason #WaterIsLife #TrailUpdate #MountainGoals #HikeSafe
