Southern France Restaurant Guide: Marseille & Beyond
A roundup of eateries from my trip—here’s what’s worth a try (and what’s not)! Nice Sapoli di Sicilia Highly recommended! Found this Italian spot via and it lived up to the hype. Cheap and delicious: seafood pasta was €17 (listed as €20 on the menu), and seafood risotto €25. It’s a bit off the waterfront—you’ll need a bus—but trust me, it’s worth the trip.😂 Lucky Thé A Chinese-owned bubble tea shop near Nice Airport. The owner suggested their “hidden menu” item: wonton noodles with sauce. Tasty enough, but the shaved ice? Chef’s kiss. The “bǎobǎo wǎn” (mixed dessert bowl) was just okay, though.💕 Bubu burger A (Old Town) burger joint with long evening lines. The smell of freshly grilled patties drew us in, and the burger didn’t disappoint—juicy, flavorful, and great value.😂 La Favola An Italian restaurant in the flower-filled Cours Saleya market. Their green chairs are stunning, but the food? Just so-so. We arrived right at opening time (per Google Maps) to avoid crowds, but drinks were the highlight here. Fenocchio Super popular gelato spot with tons of flavors—but honestly, I wasn’t impressed. Overhyped, in my book. Two small shops near Antibes Market💕 One does brunch—busy, but solid. The other serves coffee and pastries, perfect for a post-market pick-me-up. Nothing mind-blowing, but nice for a casual stop. Menton P10: Le Lido HUGE fail ❌🙅🏻♀️. Walked in for the location, but got the worst pizza and seafood risotto ever. (Suspect) everything was pre-made: the pizza crust was harder than a shoe sole, and the risotto had a random chicken wing in it. Checked Google later—1.9 stars. Yikes, bad luck! P11: Étoile de Noé ☕️🥐 Close to the waterfront, but their croissants were underwhelming. Skip it. P12: Tutti Frutti 🍦 A must-visit in Menton! Their gelato is fantastic—try the lavender flavor, and my personal favorite, mentonnaise (a minty, creamy dream). Highly recommend. Marseille Brasserie l'OM Café Great location on Vieux-Port square, but the food let it down. Tried the famous bouillabaisse and fried squid pasta—both underwhelming. Not recommended. Ramen Go 🍜 A tiny ramen shop with a constant crowd (and lots of takeout). The broth tastes like home—we ate here two days in a row! (Soup noodles) and dumplings are winners; (Stir-fried noodles) is just okay. Great value, too. #RestaurantRecommendations #NiceFood #MentonFood #CannesFood #AntibesFood #MarseilleFood
