Succotash Prime – A Southern Gem in DC! 🍖🍴

After watching The Two Black Chefs and being totally impressed by Edward Lee’s tofu challenge, I found out he offers a limited-time menu at Succotash Prime in DC! So when my friend visited over Christmas, we decided to give it a try 😋. This Southern-inspired restaurant has earned Michelin recommendations in both 2020 and 2021! Located near Metro Center, it spans two floors with moody lighting and classic, upscale decor. They offer a tasting menu for $60 per person, but this time we went à la carte. Starters 🥚 Deviled Eggs ❤️ Two varieties: bacon jam and green tomato. We chose the bacon jam version—savory, well-balanced, and packed with flavor. One of the best deviled eggs I’ve had! Salad 🍅 Fried Green Tomatoes ❤️ A vegetarian salad recommended by our server. Lightly fried tomatoes paired with arugula, feta cheese, and buttermilk dressing—fresh and refreshing, a great start before the mains. Mains 🥩 Gochujang Steak ❤️ Aged ribeye with Korean chili butter—tender, flavorful, and perfectly paired with kimchi. Not greasy at all. Would definitely order again! 🧈 Fried Tofu ♠️ A bit disappointing. The first bite had a hint of KFC-style seasoning, but the strong sauce and pickles overpowered the chicken-fat flavor. The tofu was thinner than expected. Dessert 🍌 Banana Pudding ♠️ Classic American sweet—very sugary! Felt like eating a bowl of whipped cream. Skip if you’re not into super sweet treats. Drink 🍹 Belle‘s Kiss (non-alcoholic) – decent but not memorable. Overall, great service! Some dishes are worth trying, but order wisely. A nice touch: plates were warmed, though the food could have been hotter when served. A small mishap: We brought a bottle of wine from Rice Market for Christmas omakase, left it under the table, and forgot it when leaving. By the time we realized, it was gone 😢. 📍 915 F St. NW, Washington DC 20004 Have you been to Succotash Prime? What’s your favorite Southern dish in DC?
