Summer Guide for "Stay-at-Home Kids" in Rice (Area)
Option 1: Urban Wandering Start your laid-back day at Rice Village: Grab a warm brunch at Local Foods or Black Walnut in the morning. 🌴 After eating, wander around Sephora and Lululemon, or sit at Sharetea with a milk tea—study a little while zoning out a bit. If you’re in the mood for a shopping spree, head to the Galleria. As the city’s most luxurious shopping mall, it’s home to both high-end brands and affordable stores.🐸🐸 Lady M and the ice skating rink are among the few highlights in this otherwise “boring town,” making it perfect for a full day of shopping and dining to kill time. ❣️❣️If you’re really bored, drive to Katy—it’s a hub for Asian food, drinks, and fun. From hot pot to dim sum, Japanese-Korean cuisine to Southeast Asian dishes, all the most authentic Asian restaurants in the area are here. There are also countless anime, Kpop, and beauty stores, plus indoor amusement parks. Option 2: Tech & Culture Take a 15-minute walk to the Museum of Fine Arts—there are so many special exhibitions that you can spend the whole day there.😜 🌲🌲The Museum of Natural Science is right next door; its dinosaur skeletons and gem hall are great for photos. You can also check out Michelin-recommended restaurants Le Jardinier and BCN nearby. NASA is a must-visit landmark for every international student in Houston/Texas. It has numerous real rockets, spacesuits, and on-site guided tours.🍅 😊😊 If you never had time before, summer is the perfect chance to dive in, absorb knowledge, and “impress others with what you’ve learned.” Option 3: Short Trips🌷 Galveston is the easiest one-day island escape—it’s just over an hour’s drive away.🦁🦁 Breathe in the sea breeze and walk on the beach in the morning, watch the sunset in the evening, and you’ll finish an entire album on the drive back. San Antonio is ideal for a two-day, one-night trip to savor slowly.🌴 🌷 It not only has the thrilling Six Flags roller coasters to get your heart racing, but also riverside bistros where you can dine while enjoying the breeze—giving you a tipsy, vacation-like vibe.🐟🐟 💞Option 4: Focus on Studying If you really have to stay on campus, secretly “get ahead of others” (by studying) isn’t a bad idea: - Summer courses: Rice offers both online and in-person summer classes—great for improving your GPA or earning credits in advance.🍐🎼 Pick a few easy courses to lighten your load for the regular semester. - Summer research: Proactively reach out to professors you’re on good terms with and express your interest in advance. 👉👈 🐾🐾Keep an eye on newsletters from the Social Sciences department, Career Center, and various colleges—they share lots of internship and fellowship opportunities. Missing them would be a real loss. More guides on food, drinks, activities, and housing reviews around Rice will be coming soon to accompany you through these two months of “staying on campus.” Who says staying at school has to be boring? 🕊️ 🦔You just haven’t found the right way to make the most of it yet! #vlog #RiceUniversity #RiceUniversityLife #USUndergraduateStudy #USUndergraduateLife #HoustonLife
