Sweden | Gothenburg Archipelago
Gothenburg, Sweden’s second-largest city, is also famed as an “island city.” A half-day on one of the islands is the perfect way to soak up classic Nordic ambience. The islets are peaceful and compact. Forests are modest, paths are neatly maintained, and the scenery is superb. Each island has about three beaches;🦞 the south-eastern beach nearest the ferry dock is quiet and perfect for collecting shells and stones. 🚃 Transit Pass Buy a 24-hour Zone A ticket—it covers nearly all city sights and also lets you ride the four ferry routes 281–284. 🚤 Ferry Take tram 11 to the terminus Saltholmen. Cross the road and walk 200 m to the ferry pier. 🚤 Island Choice I rode ferry 281 to its final stop, Vrångö (note that 281 has two directions). Tiny, colourful cabins dot Vrångö; climb the small hill on the west side for sweeping views. 🚤 Admission All islands are free. 🚤 Timing One island can be fully enjoyed in about 3 hours. #Sweden #Gothenburg #GothenburgArchipelago #UniversityOfGothenburg
