Taiwanese food certified by Taiwanese in Boston!

🍗 Taipei Cuisine: Quincy’s Taiwanese-Sichuan Fusion—More Spice Than Tradition It’s been over a year since my Taiwanese friend moved to South Korea, so I’ve been craving Taiwanese food badly. My last Taiwanese food review was Zhu Ma Kitchen (search my profile for their beef wrap and rice cake!). When I heard this spot was “Taiwanese-approved,” I had to go. Honestly, the menu reads more like Sichuan food than classic Taiwanese—maybe it’s a Taiwanese-Sichuan couple running it? We tried both styles to see which shines. 🌟 The Hits Salt & Pepper Chicken: 🐔 Far better than Zhu Ma Kitchen. Crispy coating (not too thick), juicy meat inside—perfect for popping in your mouth. Pure comfort, no complaints. Sichuan Peppercorn Pork Kidney: 🐷 A standout. The kidney is sliced into delicate, thin pieces (impressive knife skills!) and cooked to tender perfection—no gamey taste. The Sichuan peppercorn sauce is numbing, fragrant, and authentic. Tied with the salt & pepper chicken as my favorite. Lu Rou Fan (Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice): 🍚 Authentic, according to my Taiwanese friends. The pork is on the drier side, with a light sauce (not gloopy). I prefer mainland-style with more fat, but this tastes like home-cooked Taiwanese comfort. 😐 The “Meh” Spicy Beef Wrap: 🫔 I wanted the classic Taiwanese beef wrap, but this is a hybrid—more like Sichuan’s green pepper pork stir-fry in a wrap. The wrap itself is good, the filling is tasty, but it’s not what I expected. I’ll try the traditional version next time. ❌ The Miss Three-Cup Chicken: 🐓 Avoid. No hint of the sweet, savory, herbal flavor that defines this dish. It’s neither Taiwanese nor Sichuanese—just bland. ✨ Verdict: Fusion Over Pure Taiwanese It’s solid, but leans more “Taiwanese-inspired with Sichuan flair” than traditional. The Sichuan dishes (like the peppercorn kidney) are stronger than the Taiwanese classics. Budget Score: 3.5/5. Fair for portions, worth it for the salt & pepper chicken and Sichuan dishes. If you’re craving Taiwanese with a spicy twist, this works. But for die-hard traditionalists? I’m still hunting for a more authentic spot. 📍 Taipei Cuisine 68 Billings Rd, Quincy, MA 02171 #BostonTaiwanese #QuincyEats #FusionFlavors
