Temecula|Callaway Winery – Yes, That Golf Brand Callaway! 🍷⛳
Stopped by Callaway Vineyard & Winery while passing through Temecula! I heard it was the very first winery in the area, so I did a quick dive into its history. Ely Callaway Jr. originally started in textiles, began growing grapes in 1969, and founded this winery in 1973. After running it for 8 years, he sold it and went on to create the golf brand we all know today—Callaway! 📈✨ The winery sits on a hillside with super open views—lots of people were there waiting to catch the sunset. 🌄🧡 If you want to tour the wine cellar, you need to book ahead—only two time slots per day: 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. The tasting includes 6 wines; it’s pretty similar to other wineries, but their tasting room feels newer, more spacious, and really pleasant! 🏞️🍇 Of the wines we tried, these two stood out to me: 🍾 2024 WY Viognier 🍷 2022 WY Petite Sirah (“WY” stands for wild yeast!) The Viognier was rich yet low in acidity—different from more common whites like Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay, which I really enjoyed. Petite Sirah is a pretty well-known red, and this one was smooth and easy to drink. Have you visited any wineries in Temecula? Which one is your favorite?
