The best handmade pasta that Detroit DT keeps coming back to Shewolf
SheWolf Pastificio & Bar | Still My Favorite Pasta Spot in Michigan – A Second Visit Update! I posted about this spot ages ago, and it’s still hands down the best pasta I’ve had in Michigan! Has it got flaws? Sure—crowds are getting bigger (walk-ins with instant seats are a thing of the past now 😅), and they’ve updated the menu. Taste is subjective, but here’s how my latest visit went! 🥗 Apps: Hit-or-Miss, But Never Bad Most appetizers weren’t “wow,” but they weren’t disappointing either—just middle-of-the-road. Chickpea Pancake: Kinda odd for an app! It’s topped with heaps of salad greens, and the pancake itself is super filling—by the time we finished it, we were already half-full for the main course. Not my favorite pick. Wagyu Carpaccio: Total hit! Shaved Parmesan cheese piles high, plus toasted hazelnuts—wrap that with the soft, salty wagyu, and every bite is rich, nutty, and perfectly balanced. So good, we almost ordered a second 🥩! 🍝 Pasta: Still No Complaints (Mostly!) Let’s be real—pasta is why we’re here, and it still delivers. Squid Ink Pasta with Miami Pink Shrimp: Incredibly fragrant! The squid ink sauce is bold and briny, but the shrimp itself was just “meh”—not as sweet or fresh as I hoped. Still, the pasta alone made this worth ordering. Basil Ricotta Stuffed Pasta: Cheese lovers, this one’s for you! The filling is blended basil and ricotta, plus a huge chunk of extra cheese in the middle—total indulgence. Only tiny flaw: the filling was a bit dry, probably from being baked a little too long. But honestly? I’d still order it again for that cheesy goodness. 🐟 Entree: Skip the Mediterranean Sea Bream We split the Mediterranean sea bream (heard it’s imported straight from the Mediterranean, not local)—and it was underwhelming. The flavor was way too plain: they stuffed half a lemon inside the fish to bake it (very Mediterranean-style), but the skin was salty and crispy while the fish itself was bland. To make it worse, they snuck lemon strips inside the fish meat too—with the dim lighting, I mistook a strip for fish, took a bite, and got hit with a wave of sour, bitter, astringent flavor 😣. Big miss here. 🍰 Dessert: Cannoli Wins the Day! My beloved cannoli is still here—and it’s as good as ever! Chocolate + orange is such a classic combo, and they smartly swapped lemon (thank goodness, after that fish!) for orange. The ricotta filling was a little runny, but that didn’t stop me from loving it—I could easily eat 10 of these and not get tired 😍. 💰 Price: Still Consistent No big price jumps—around $90 per person, which feels fair for the quality (especially the pasta!). Overall, it’s still a go-to for me—just skip the sea bream and stick to what they do best: pasta and cannoli! #AnnArbor #AnnArborStudentLife #UniversityOfMichiganAnnArbor #MichiganFood #DetroitFood #MichiganStateUniversity #MichiganLife #AnnArborEats #AnnArborFoodie #MichiganEats
