A Culinary Serenade at Detroit’s Italian Gem !!!
Nestled in the heart of Detroit, the city’s most upscale Italian restaurant delivers an unforgettable dining experience that feels like stepping into the heart of Italy. The moment you enter, the warm ambiance and inviting aromas of fresh basil, toasted focaccia, and simmering sauces promise a meal crafted with passion and precision.
I began with their freshly baked focaccia bread, served alongside burro fatto in casa (homemade butter). The bread was a masterpiece—golden, crisp on the outside, and perfectly airy inside. The butter, creamy with a subtle hint of sea salt, was the perfect accompaniment. It was simple, yet a flawless start that set the tone for the meal.
For the appetizer, I opted for the insalata caprese moderna, a refined take on the classic Caprese salad. The tomatoes were impossibly ripe and sweet, paired with velvety mozzarella and a drizzle of aged balsamic that added just the right balance of acidity. Each bite was a harmonious blend of freshness and depth, a testament to the chef’s ability to elevate even the simplest dishes.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the tagliolini al tartufo—a truffle pasta dish priced at $80. While indulgent, it was worth every penny. This dish was pure luxury, with the fresh, house-made pasta—crafted before my eyes at their open pasta-making station—delivering a texture so perfect it could only be described as divino. The rich, earthy aroma of shaved black truffle melded beautifully with the creamy Parmesan sauce, creating a dish that was indulgent yet perfectly balanced. Each bite was a revelation, a symphony of flavors that lingered long after the plate was empty.
One of the most remarkable details, shared by our exceptionally attentive server, was that this is the only restaurant in Michigan that makes its pasta dough in-house daily. Watching the chefs skillfully roll and shape the dough added a layer of authenticity and artistry that elevated the entire dining experience.
For dessert, I chose their artisanal gelato, which was as delightful as the rest of the meal. Served in a trio of flavors—pistachio, dark chocolate, and vanilla—it was the perfect end to an extraordinary dinner. The gelato was silky and rich, with an intensity of flavor that showcased the high-quality ingredients used.
This restaurant is more than just a place to dine; it’s a love letter to Italian cuisine. From the warm focaccia bread to the exquisite truffle pasta and the handcrafted gelato, every element is infused with passion, authenticity, and artistry. It’s a must-visit for those seeking a true taste of...
Read moreMy recent visit to Shewolf in Detroit was, without exaggeration, one of the most regrettable dining experiences I’ve ever endured. What promised to be an evening of culinary delight quickly descended into a showcase of indifference and exorbitant pricing that left me both frustrated and significantly lighter in the wallet.
From the moment we stepped into Shewolf, the service—or, more accurately, the lack thereof—was shockingly poor. Staff seemed more interested in conversing among themselves than attending to guests. It took an eternity just to be acknowledged, let alone seated, and this was merely a foreboding of the dismal service to come. A reservation made for a critically important date made months in advance was thrown to the wayside because a table “wasn't quite wrapped up”.
Once seated, the neglect continued. The wait for a server to take our order was painfully long, and when our wine was finally served, it was as if daylight robbery was being committed right before our eyes. A bottle of wine, modest at best and one I’ve seen priced at $15 in retail, was presented with a staggering price tag of $70. The markup was not only obscene but also insultingly transparent, an affront to any guest with a semblance of awareness regarding wine pricing.
But it was the service that truly marred the experience beyond redemption. Indifferent, unapologetic, and seemingly oblivious to the concept of hospitality, the staff at Shewolf transformed what could have been a bearable dining experience into an unequivocal disaster. Requests were forgotten, smiles were scarce, and the overall atmosphere was one of neglect.
To add insult to injury, the ambiance of the place, which might have offered some redemption, was overshadowed by the glaring flaws in service and pricing. One dines out not just for food but for an experience, and Shewolf failed spectacularly on both fronts. The extremely loud and compact tables have the wait staffs buttocks slamming on your food close enough to give you a week’s worth of pink eye.
In conclusion, my visit to Shewolf was a stark reminder that high prices do not always equate to high quality, either in food or service. It was a lesson learned in the most disappointing of ways. To those considering a visit, I implore you to reconsider. Detroit boasts many culinary gems where your time, appetite, and money will be far better spent.

Read moreSheWolf is one of my favorite restaurants in Detroit. I have eaten there many times over the past couple of years. Celebrated many special occasions. Food is excellent & service exceptional! I am very disappointed in my last visit on Sunday August 29th. My husband and I decided to bring two of our friends who have never dined at SheWolf before to try their Aperitivo Hour. I spoke so highly of Shewolf to them and they were very excited. Unfortunately it was terrible service from just trying to get a cocktail when we sat down to ordering food they couldn’t get the order right. We had to ask repeatedly to get service. Every time we asked about our order, which by the way that was with whoever we could find walking by they said I’ll check and would come back with something we didn’t order or it was another person bringing us some thing that we didn’t order. I think we had 4 different servers no wonder they couldn’t get anything right.. It was just awful! All the servers out on the patio seemed to be very distracted. The table next to us seemed to be having the same problem. My husband and I were so disappointed with the service and very embarrassed in front of our friends that we brought to there for the first time after speaking so highly about Shewolf. The food we did have was of course excellent. I have to give their chef kudos. That’s the only reason I gave them 2 stars because the food that we did get was very good. The Porchetta sandwich was delicious! Given the reputation of Shewolf this is absolutely NOT ACCEPTABLE. I think management should be aware of the terrible service. If I could’ve found somebody in management level around I would’ve complained that day. It’s one thing to have slow service, it does happen at times and I understand but this was just one thing after another from the time we walked in until getting our bill which we had to ask for three times. Not one server apologize to us. It’s just not acceptable from this caliber of a restaurant. I am so...
