Known for its mild climate and surrounding forests, it has been a retreat for the upper class since the Roman Empire. 💗Commissioned by Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este and designed by Mannerist architect Pirro Ligorio, construction of Villa d'Este began in 1563 and continued into the 17th century. 🌱During the 18th century, the villa fell into neglect and disrepair.
