The geological wonders of Drumheller
🦖 Day Trip from Calgary: Drumheller's Dino Valley Tired of Calgary? Escape to this hidden gem—a town nestled in canyons, home to unique badland landscapes you won’t find elsewhere. The barren beauty here is unmatched, plus endless golden wheat fields en route that dance in the wind 🌾 🦕 Royal Tyrrell Museum From Triassic to Jurassic to Cretaceous—turns out, diverse dinosaurs thrived south of Calgary! This museum brings prehistoric evolution to life with incredible fossils. Perfect for kids (and adults!) who’ll geek out over ancient skeletons. 🦕 Midland Provincial Park Just outside the museum, a winding staircase leads to mind-blowing geology: layer upon layer of rock stacked over eons. The most surreal part? Miles of perfectly straight sedimentary lines that look like they were drawn with a ruler. 🦕 Hoodoos Trail A must-visit! Hike among mushroom-shaped rock pillars 🍄🟫 (erosion columns) on this moderate trail. It’s not too steep, but climbing 2/3 of the way gives epic photo ops. Pro tip: Bring sunscreen—exposed terrain gets hot! 🦕 Horseshoe Canyon The iconic badland landmark, named for its horseshoe shape (though I struggled to see it from above 😅). Descend into the canyon for up-close views of striated cliffs. Tip: Visit in the morning to avoid midday heat—perfect for a quick stop on your way back! #CanadaTravel #Drumheller #DinoValley #Badlands #CanyonHiking #Hoodoos #CalgaryTourism #RoyalTyrrellMuseum
