The Spanish Square
The Spanish Square (Italian: Piazza di Spagna) is a stunning square in the heart of Rome, right next to its namesake metro station 🚇. At the top of the famous Spanish Steps (Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti), you’ll find the beautiful Church of Santissima Trinità dei Monti ⛪, funded by French Bourbon kings. This iconic spot even starred in the classic film Roman Holiday 🎥🍿! The square’s centerpiece is the Barcaccia Fountain ⛲, a masterpiece of Baroque art designed by Pietro Bernini (father of the legendary sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini) and built between 1627-1629. Fun (but maybe not totally true) fact: 🚤 Pope Urban VIII supposedly got the idea after seeing a stranded boat 🚣♂️ during a Tiber River flood! On the right side of the Spanish Steps, there’s a charming yellow-white building 🏡 where the English poet John Keats lived—and sadly passed away in 1821. Today, it’s a museum 📜 dedicated to his life. Nearby, you’ll also find the 15th-century palace of Cardinal Lorenzo Cybo de Mari 🏛️—because Rome is basically an open-air museum! ✨🇮🇹 ✨ Perfect for photos, people-watching, and feeling like Audrey Hepburn! 😍📸 #Piazza di Spagna #Italy
