The Museo di Roma (Museum of Rome) is a museum in Rome, Italy, and part of the Civic Museums of Rome. Established in the 1930s to document the rapidly disappearing local history and traditions of "Old Rome," it has evolved into an art museum through numerous donations and acquisitions of artworks. 🏛️ The initial collection included 120 watercolors by 19th-century painter Ettore Roesler Franz, titled "The Vanishing Rome," which were later transferred to the Museum of Rome in Trastevere. The museum was founded by art historian Antonio Muñoz, who was the director of the city's "Antiquities and Fine Arts Department," making it Rome's first civic museum. 📜 Initially intended to illustrate and document the past, the museum's collection has grown significantly through bequests, donations, and purchases. This includes Antonio Muñoz's collection of around 5,000 sketches, prints, and old illustrated books. Today, it houses many artworks and has become a prominent art museum. 🎨 Notable artists represented in the collection include Pompeo Batoni, Giuseppe Bottani, Hipólito Caffi, Antonio Canova, Giuseppe Cerrachi, Giuseppe Bartolomeo Chiari, Leandro Cruyl, Felice Giani, Pietro Labruzzi, Francesco Mochi, Giovanni Paolo Panini, Bartolomeo Pinelli, Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Joshua Reynolds, and Nicola Salvi (designer of the Trevi Fountain). 🎨 The museum is housed in the Palazzo Braschi, a large Neoclassical palace located between Piazza Navona, Piazza del Popolo, Via del Corso, and Piazza Pasquino. Commissioned by Duke Luigi Braschi Onesti, the nephew of Pope Pius VI, the palace is a stunning example of Neoclassical architecture. 🏰 The second and third floors of the museum feature a series of windows overlooking Piazza Navona, offering a breathtaking view of the square. It's the perfect spot to capture the beauty of this iconic Roman plaza. 📸 #Italy #Rome #Neoclassicism #MuseumOfRome #WorldTravel #CulturalHeritage #HistoricArchitecture #ArchitecturePhotography #TiltShiftPhotography #WorldHeritageCity #VanishingRome #PiazzaNavona
