Topo Gigio | Best Italian Cuisine in Chicago
🥩Topo Gigio, the little mouse of Old Town Italian cuisine, is a place I’ve visited seven or eight times. I almost always order burrata, fried squid rings, seafood risotto, and squid ink pasta. Today, for the appetizer, I tried the grilled squid recommended by the server—there were three whole squids. For the main course, there was a seafood ravioli special with crab meat in both the filling and the sauce. I hadn’t tried these two dishes before, and they were both delicious. The peach sorbet for dessert was also quite nice. 🥩The portions are quite substantial. If you’re not dining with all men, you might consider ordering one fewer main course than the number of people. Lunch is cheaper than dinner, but note that they’re closed for lunch on Sundays. The classic seafood risotto and squid ink pasta are available at lunch, even if they’re not listed on the menu. You can walk in for lunch, but reservations are highly recommended for dinner. I’ve been to dinner once and can attest that the place is extremely popular. 🍰CARPACCIO ALLA PIEMONTESE Thinly sliced raw mignon, paired with Parmesan, has a refreshing texture but is rather ordinary compared to the two risottos in terms of flavor. 🍰DAILY SPECIAL SOUP The vegetable soup of the day is not bad, but it’s nothing special and not really necessary to order. 🍰TIRAMISU Not recommended! It’s not bad, but the cream ratio is too high. The ladyfingers aren’t fully layered, so you end up eating a lot of just cream in some bites. This is especially cloying after having the risotto. #Chicago #ChicagoFood #ChicagoExploration
