Traveling in Yellowknife

Based in Vancouver, Canada, Reading Break is just around the corner. 🌟🌟 Thinking back to my 4-day, 3-night aurora trip to Yellowknife in mid-February last year, lying in the snow watching the auroras still makes my heart flutter 💓. It’s truly an unforgettable wonderful experience in life. So I dug up last year’s photos, put together this travel journal, and hope it can be a reference for those planning a trip 😊 🦕 Flights - Expedia I booked the tickets on the Expedia app. Just choose the most cost-effective option based on your travel dates and departure location.🏤🏘️ 🦕 Travel Agency - Aurora Village This is the largest local travel agency in Yellowknife focusing on aurora viewing. Run👣👣 by Japanese, it offers comprehensive services with great attitudes and multiple languages available. The guide who took us was a Taiwanese sister, and she was very kind 😊. The conditions for viewing auroras here are quite good. They built dozens of Inuit teepee tents in the suburbs for tourists to warm up and rest at night. The tents also provide hot wate💧r and hot cocoa. I remember eating instant noodles,🍜 playing cards, and waiting for the auroras in the tent—so much fun ✌🏻! All information is available on their official website: https://auroravillage.com However, the website doesn’t support bookings. You need to send an email to booking@auroravillage.com to make a reservation ⚠️⚠️⚠️ We chose the Hotel and Aurora-Viewing Tour Package 👉🏻 Including hotel + 3 nights of aurora viewing + rental of clothes and shoes + airport transfers Information to include in the email: - Arrival date + round-trip flight numbers - The hotel you choose 👉🏻 Recommended: Chateau Nova, newly built with spacious rooms and a convenient location - Number of aurora viewing nights 👉🏻 2 nights / 3 nights / longer - Full names of all tourists + sizes for renting clothes and shoes On the day of pickup, they’ll give you a Welcome Package, which is supe, including: - Mini flashlight - Yellowknife map + guidebook - The agency’s certificate + postcards After booking via email, just wait to set off to see the auroras 🤗 🦕 Food Yellowknife is small, and there aren’t many delicious restaurants. A must-try is the most popular local restaurant called Bullocks Bistro . The landlady is very cool 😎. You can try the local beer 🍺. For dishes, just let the landlady recommend the daily Special—all made with fresh ingredients. 🏵️Other places I remember eating at were a Vietnamese noodle shop, a brunch spot, and a Chinese family-run hotpot restaurant, but I can’t remember their names. When you’re there, download the Yelp app, search locally, and choose what you want to eat🍉🍊 based on ratings and photos. Most of the time, we were too lazy to go out, so every time we went out, we’d go to the supermarket in Picture 2⃣️ to buy a bunch of chips, instant noodles, yogurt, fruits, etc., for breakfast, late-night snacks, and treats. It’s better to bring instant noodles from home, as the supermarket has limited options. Eating a bowl of hot instant noodles in such cold weather is pure happiness! 🦕 4-Day 3-Night Itinerary + Activities 1⃣️ Arrived at Yellowknife Airport around noon on the first day. After checking in at the hotel, the rented coats and shoes were already laid out in the room—kudos to Aurora Village 👍🏻. After packing up, we walked to the famous Bullock's Bistro (3534 Weaver Dr, Yellowknife, NT X1A 2J6). The landlady is a bit tough, but the food and atmosphere are great. The walls are covered with souvenirs left by tourists. After the meal, we played in the snow, took photos, strolled back to the hotel to rest, and waited for the travel agency to pick us up for aurora viewing. Besides photography equipment and warm clothes, it’s recommended to bring some food and something to pass the time, like playing cards. People in the aurora-waiting tents are grouped by language, so if you speak Chinese, there will be people from various parts of China inside. We got familiar with each other quickly 😊. Regarding photos: If you’re a professional, that’s great. As for me, I didn’t take any myself (brought a camera but gave up after not setting it up properly). The agency staff will take photos for everyone when the auroras appear, and you can buy them. I thought it was a rare trip, so I bought all the photos.☯️☪️ 🌈 On the second day, we slept in. It was snowing heavily, so we took a taxi to have brunch, then walked to Pilot's Monument, climbed to the top to overlook the entire Yellowknife. Then we went to the local Canada Goose factory store—my friends bought coats there, much cheaper than in Vancouver.💧 #Yellowknife #Aurora #Lighthouse #Nightview
