Tried Over Ten Dishes Today at Astoria—and Hit a Landmine 😅
I’ve been to Astoria DC many times—it’s always been great except for being a bit pricey. But yesterday I finally stumbled on a real miss: the sweet and sour ribs were way too sweet—everyone, please avoid them! 🍖💥🙅♀️ Here are some dishes I’d definitely recommend instead—my go-to orders every time: 1️⃣ Dongpo Pork (Braised Pork Belly) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best in DC! Sweet and savory, and it comes with a bowl of rice. 🍖🍚 2️⃣ Beef Noodles ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Northwestern-style mixed noodles—incredibly fragrant! Just a small bowl though, gone in a few bites. 🍜🐄 These are also tasty but not mind-blowing: 3️⃣ Garlic Eggplant ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tried it last time—eggplant is fried and super flavorful. 🍆💜 4️⃣ Guizhou Style Spicy Chicken ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pretty unique! 🌶️🐔 5️⃣ Twice-Cooked Pork ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Better than other places’ versions. 🥓🔥 6️⃣ Cumin Lamb ⭐⭐⭐ A bit on the sweet side. 🐑🌿 7️⃣ Crab Meat Rice ⭐⭐⭐ Spicy! 🦀🍚 8️⃣ Boiled Fish ⭐⭐⭐ Tasty but portion is too small. 🐟🥘 9️⃣ Cumin Ribs ⭐⭐⭐ 🔟 Stir-Fried Pea Shoots ⭐⭐⭐ Good but small serving. 🌱🍳 1️⃣1️⃣ Wontons in Chili Oil ⭐⭐⭐ Yum! 🥟🔥 💰 About $60 per person. Individual dishes are reasonably priced, but portions are small—you’ll need to order a few to feel full. After your meal, head to Dolcezza Gelato & Coffee in Dupont Circle—it’s the best gelato I’ve had in DC! 🍦❤️ 🍚 Astoria DC 📍 1521 17th St NW, Washington, DC 20036 Reservations can be tricky—they open daily at 5 PM, so go early to snag a walk-in spot! ⏳🚪 #DMV #WashingtonDC #DMVFoodReview #DCEats #AstoriaDC #ChineseFood #FoodFavorites #WhatToOrder #DishReview #GelatoAfterwards #DCfoodie #DiningTips #SmallPortions #BestInDC #EatLocal #FoodieGuide #TriedAndTested
