Valencia | Grill Japones Honoo
🍢 Grill Japones Honoo: Aragon’s Japanese Charcoal Grill Spot—Tempura, Wagyu, and Grilled Bites If you’re after Japanese charcoal-grilled dishes, this Aragon restaurant, long on our list, delivers a solid experience. With a focus on tempura, wagyu, and grilled skewers, it’s a decent pick—though some dishes stand out more than others. 🌟 The Highlights Tempura de EBI 🍤 A must-try starter. Plump shrimp coated in a light, crispy batter—no greasy heaviness here. The tangy-sweet mayo dip elevates it, making it one of the best tempura dishes we’ve had in Valencia. Fried food enthusiasts, this is for you. Scallop Skewers 🍢 Among the grilled options, these are the clear favorite. Juicy, sweet scallops with a subtle charcoal smokiness—simple, but incredibly flavorful. Entrecot Wagyu 🥩 Priced at €38/100g, it’s a splurge, but the quality justifies it. The staff weighs the steak tableside (charmingly reminiscent of picking out delicate jewelry) before grilling to a perfect “punto” (medium-rare). Thinly sliced, it’s tender, buttery, and melts in your mouth, with a rich sauce that enhances its natural flavor. Served with roasted sweet potato, the pairing is unexpectedly delightful. 😐 The Less Impressive Wagyu and Chicken Skewers 🥩🍗 The wagyu skewers are tender with a decent dip, but the chicken options (regular and wasabi-infused) lack luster. The wasabi chicken tastes more like soy-glazed meat than anything spicy, and neither captures the distinct charcoal char we loved at a Madrid yakitori spot. Unagidon Kabaya (Eel Rice) 🐍 A first attempt at eel for some in our group, and it left us underwhelmed. The eel is crispy and sweet with a caramelized glaze, and the rice soaks up the sauce, but it becomes overly salty after a few bites. We plan to try Hocho’s eel rice next for a better comparison of Valencia’s eel offerings. 📍 Practical Info Hours: Tuesday–Saturday, 14:00–16:00 and 21:00–23:00 (closed Sunday and Monday—don’t make a wasted trip!). Price: Around €40–50 per person. Vibe: Nice ambiance, neat plating, and attentive service—great for small groups. Grill Japones Honoo is worth a visit for its standout tempura and wagyu, even if a few dishes don’t hit the mark. Reserve ahead and go for the tempura and scallop skewers—you won’t regret it. #ValenciaFood #JapaneseGrill #WagyuLovers
