Visit Luray for the Largest Cave in the Eastern U.S.

Just a 2-hour drive from DC, located in the Shenandoah Valley, it’s claimed to be the largest cave in the East. Although most people have seen stalactites back home, it’s still worth the trip. 😊 The cave is designed with a lot of thought, giving you the feeling of changing scenery with every step, and there’s even the clever use of mirror imaging. All in all, for $34 for everything, it’s pretty good value. The cave tour, including time for photos, will take about 40 minutes, or even longer. (Fun fact: The cave is warm in winter, so you don’t need to wear too much inside) 🌟 The pass includes not only the cave entrance but also three small museums: the Shenandoah Valley History Museum (showcasing the early European immigrant lifestyle with everyday exhibits that reflect a sense of living aesthetics, and outside there are restorations of the buildings from that time), the Classic Car Museum (filled with popular models from the early 20th century, making you feel like you’re in an old movie), and a smaller Toy Museum. 🚗🧸 After spending the morning visiting the museums and the cave, you can head to Luray town for some food and drinks. The town isn’t very big, but there are quite a few restaurant options. Check out the local tourism website for recommendations at luraypage.com. We chose a pizza place called Il Vesuvio Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, serving very authentic Italian pizza (though they have a Hawaii option on the menu), with a price per person under $20 and plenty of seating. 🍕 Luray is really nice 😌 #dmvfoodandfun #dmvweekendgetaways #dmvphotography #Luray #LurayCave #sonya7c2 #35mm
