Walden Pond in Concord, a Boston Town

This small town holds the soul and spirit of America. Concord, a suburb of Boston, is most famous for Walden Pond—made renowned by Thoreau’s eponymous book. But it has more to offer: North Bridge: This is where the “shot heard round the world” was fired, marking the start of the American Revolutionary War. When I visited, I ran into a summer camp with guided tours—super informative 🇺🇸!😋 Literary Legacy: The town was home to 5 famous authors. The white house you’ll see is Ralph Waldo Emerson’s former residence (admission is required, but guided tours are included). Also, Concord was where Nathaniel Hawthorne (The Scarlet Letter), Henry David Thoreau (Walden), Herman Melville (Moby-Dick), and Louisa May Alcott (Little Women) lived. Alcott even borrowed Thoreau’s axe to build her home—and her father was a writer too! Practical Tips for Visitors🍅 Summer Train Ticket: On weekends, there’s a super affordable “summer ticket” (only ~$9.9) that lets you ride unlimited times on weekends. When I was studying in Boston, I’d take the train to explore small suburban towns like this on weekends.🧑‍💼 Getting to Walden Pond: From the train station, follow Thoreau Road (a main road) all the way to Walden Pond—you’ll pass a courthouse along the way. Despite its fame, Walden Pond is technically just a lake (you’ll even see people swimming there!). Thoreau lived in a small forest by the lake to experience a rural lifestyle, though the spot is only 4km from the town center—people would bring him food and supplies. There’s a sign marking the original site of his cabin, and a replica cabin has been built in the parking lot 🌳. More Literary Spots✍️ Louisa May Alcott’s Former Residence: It’s set in a quiet little garden—perfect for a peaceful stroll. 🌳 Concord Cemetery: A large cemetery where many famous authors are buried. There are two entrances—use the back one to go straight to Alcott’s grave. You’ll see lots of pens placed in front of her tombstone; presumably, her fans hope she can keep creating wonderful works in heaven ✍️. #NewYork #Boston #WaldenPond #WeekendLife #Weekend #Outing #WanderingThroughFamousLiteraryGardens #MinimalistLife #HenryDavidThoreau #Concord #CozyWeekend #Strolling #Hiking
