Washington DC | More Great Spots for a One-Hour Stroll

Summer is here, and it feels like there’s more and more free time to enjoy! When the weather’s nice, heading out for a casual walk—even if it’s not far—and meeting up with friends for a meal… who wouldn’t call that a little slice of happiness? Sharing three perfect destinations for a one-hour wander. 📍 The Kreeger Museum 🎫 Tickets can be booked online or purchased on-site. Student discounts available. Note the opening hours. Occasionally hosts events like garden yoga. 🏠 Home to a unique Van Gogh and plenty of Monets! Since 1959, the Kreegers began collecting modern art in a deeply personal way—they bought only what they loved. To me, it’s like a cozy house filled with Monets, Picassos, and more, including a less familiar side of Van Gogh. Honestly, if I could, I’d do the same—buy and build just like this. Beyond the art, the building itself is architectural eye candy! Surrounded by sculpture gardens and terraces, it’s both photogenic and relaxing. Compact and easy to explore—perfect for a laid-back visit. 📍 Larz Anderson House 🎫 Free admission. Note opening hours. Guided tours are available— informative and comfortable! 🏠 Once the home of U.S. diplomat Larz Anderson and his wife, this mansion hosted domestic and international elites while showcasing their art and historical collections gathered from travels worldwide. After Anderson’s death in 1937, the house and its contents were donated to the Society of the Cincinnati, which opened it as a museum in 1939. Today, it remains the headquarters of the Society, functioning as a museum and library. The tour covers the first two floors, featuring countless exquisite collectibles and luxurious rooms—a visual feast! Though the route is set, visitors are free to take photos and move around. Absolutely worth it—another +1 to the mansion experience! Standing by the sunlit windows during the tour, I almost felt like taking a nap right there. 📍 Theodore Roosevelt Island 🌳 For those craving nature without going too far, Roosevelt Island is ideal! Landscape architects transformed overgrown farmland into a tribute to Roosevelt—outdoorsman and conservationist. Though carefully designed, it still feels like a "real forest," mimicking the wilderness that once covered the island. It’s wild at heart! The island is small, with trails winding through wooded uplands and swampy lowlands. Along the way, you’ll catch glimpses of the city skyline and the Kennedy Center—a surreal contrast perfect for a peaceful stroll full of natural surprises! Just an hour away—why not start your mini-adventure someday? Or stop by for a break when you’re passing through! #WashingtonDC #AroundDC 🌳🎨🏛️
