๐ Weekend Getaway from Houston: Corpus Christi Beach Trip! ๐๐จ
Just a 3-hour drive from Houston, Corpus Christi offers much clearer water and nicer beaches than Galveston ๐๏ธ๐. Itโs packed with families and perfect for a relaxing, low-key vacation โ think ocean breezes, sunbathing, building sandcastles, and pure chill time ๐งโโ๏ธโ๏ธ. You can also visit the USS Lexington aircraft museum ๐ณ๏ธ, the aquarium, and a water park. Had so much fun swimming in the sea โ though I got pretty tan! ๐ We left around noon on Friday and stopped at Buc-eeโs for beach gear ๐๐. Turned out the photos by the sea were amazing โ forever love Buc-eeโs! ๐ธ On the way back Sunday, we tried โThe Texanโ (kind of a Buc-eeโs imitation) for lunch โ not bad! ๐ We stayed at the Holiday Inn Beachfront ๐จ โ right on a public beach. Not as clean as Mustang Island or Padre, but being steps from the ocean was super convenient. Wading into the water day or night was a breeze! ๐๐ Note: Rooms are pretty humid being so close to the sea. We kept the AC running low to avoid dampness. Next time, Iโd book a place with a kitchen or an Airbnb and buy fresh seafood from the pier to cook ๐ฆ๐ณ! Saturday morning, we toured the USS Lexington ๐ข. Used a $1-off coupon from their website โ just show it on your phone at the ticket counter. Every dollar counts! ๐ต Saturday afternoon, we drove to Mustang Island ๐๏ธ. The state park was full ๐ฎ, so we went 2 miles further to Access Road 2 Beach where you can drive right onto the sand ๐๐จ. Ended up saving on park entry โ though there were no showers, so we had to shake off the sand back at the hotel ๐งผ๐. Tried two highly-recommended oyster spots from ๐ฆช Water Street Oyster Bar: Their raw oysters were fresh and delicious! Surprisingly good for the Gulf Coast โ especially with their mustard dipping sauce. Went during happy hour (3-5 PM) for half-price oysters. We had a dozen, then ordered another half-dozen! ๐๐ ๐ฅ Black Diamond Oyster Co.: A cute local spot near Mustang Island.
