Who said Canberra is boring?? (Capital City Day Trip πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί)

In my opinion, Canberra feels a bit like a high-tech industrial park – clean streets, modern architecture, and a very orderly layout. The city is quiet, peaceful, and feels untouched by the hustle and bustle… but personally, I prefer big bustling cities, so I’m really glad I chose to study in Sydney! 😊 I did a same-day round trip – took the 7 AM bus from Sydney and arrived in Canberra around 10:30 AM. headed back at 5 PM, so had about 6 hours to explore. Here’s my itinerary: 1️⃣ Mayfire Brunch First stop: food! 🍽️ This place was within walking distance from the bus stop. Ordered the Udon Alfredo (Japanese-style udon) and Chilli Prawn Croissant (Thai-inspired with tom yum sauce). Both were amazing – rich but not heavy. Two girls left totally full! πŸ˜‹ 2️⃣ Australian National University (ANU) Walked from Mayfire. The campus gift shop was fun to browse 🎁, and the campus itself felt spacious and open – unlike the compact layout of UNSW. Maybe because Canberra has so much land? πŸ˜‚ 3️⃣ National Museum of Australia Took a bus there (bought a Supa bus card at a convenience store – $2.5 card fee + $5 top-up = $7.5 total, enough for two trips). The museum had exhibits on Indigenous culture and nature, but the building itself was more interesting than the displays. Optional visit. πŸ›οΈ 4️⃣ Lake Burley Griffin Right outside the museum. Saw the Captain Cook Memorial Jet ⛲️… but it was just okay, not super impressive. 5️⃣ National Gallery of Australia Took an Uber (around $13+). Loved it more than the museum! Got free souvenir cards at the entrance 🎨, and they have Monet’s Water Lilies – but sadly that section was closed when we went 😒... could only peek from afar. 6️⃣ Old Parliament House Walked from the gallery (not too far). The interior felt very formal and historical – like something out of Soviet-era textbooks or old Chinese state-owned enterprises from the 80s/90s πŸ˜…β€¦ with a few capitalist touches here and there. They had four old printers you can try for free! (A bit worn out though…) 7️⃣ New Parliament House Just next to the old one. From afar, it looks like a satellite station in the desert πŸ›°οΈ. We were short on time, so we rushed through – saw the Senate Hall and learned about its role in reviewing and amending laws. Verdict: I preferred the Old Parliament House! Caught the bus back at 4:20 PM – day trip complete! βœ… #CanberraDayTrip #SydneyWeekend #AussieStudentLife #SydneyLife
