Use cash only and avoid the owner!

Great beach bar with really fantastic staff and top service but had an unpleasant experience with the owner. Paid our bill and left in a taxi, only to receive a call on our taxi drivers mobile from ‘George’. He was very aggressive on the phone, shouting and swearing so loud that everyone in the taxi could hear. Demanding we return to pay our bill as we apparently left without paying. I politely explained we had paid by card and asked if we could call him once we were back at our villa 10 mins away (I wanted to double check my account to see if the money had left). As a young woman I felt really quite threatened by the shouting so handed the phone back to our taxi driver. He then demanded to know where I was staying, thankfully my taxi driver didn’t see it appropriate to disclose this. Back at the villa I could see that the payment had been taken, I sent the screenshots as proof to George but received absolutely no response or apology for the behaviour he took with me. During the day we had all witnessed George being quite abusive to his staff, shouting at them at being quite degrading. This was a real shame as we genuinely enjoyed the service the staff provided and the food was fab. We felt like this behaviour may have been a scam, to intimidate us to return to pay (again). I see there are more reviews on this subject. Our lovely day was quite tarnished by this one man’s poor behaviour. Such a shame as the staff are fantastic and the...

Nice beach location selected by our taxi tour driver, who then got his free lunch. Pleasant server. Had the goat curry, pretty good. We didn’t have the chicken but it looked good. Had fish burger, disappointed — edible, but was very average / nothing special / sorta small and to us not good value given the $13 US price. Seems to be a ban on tartar sauce in Antigua, so mayo it was. The day we visited there were MANY flies in this fully open air place, never knew flies were so beer crazy, and after first swallow of beer and not keeping hand on top of bottle, had two flies inside the mostly full beer bottle, looked like the flies died in drunken agony. So $5 US for no beer but gained a humorous memorable moment. Staff had not yet provided fly fan, they saw the flies in my full beer bottle but still charged for the not consumed beer (had no big problem with that, presumably they would be out of business if they covered customer inattention to fly dispersal, but would have appreciated a heads up to keep hand on top of bottle at all times). The waiter looking forlorn at my beer, did ask if I wanted to order another beer, worded like I would pay for that one too, passed on that to “save the flies.” Anyways protect your food and drink with zeal or hope for...

Darkwood is a Beach Bar/Restaurant/Event Location situated on the Darkwood Bay Beach on the Valley Road in Antigua and Barbuda. The are other amenities offered to the clients including a massage service, beach chair rentals and a washroom/changing room to name a few. The visitor/client is well treated and the stocked bar and warm sunny weather (Mostly) will delight the senses. The Restaurant serving light meals such as burger, fries and other gastronomic delights will ensure that the guest of the establishment have a fulfilling day.

Comfortable indoor and shaded outdoor seating with great seascape and landscape views, that larger island you see to the south on a clear day; is Montserrat. The picturesque Darkwood Beach is excellent (like so many other Antiguan Beaches) and the white powdery sand coupled with the inviting and invigorating sea will both relax and refresh.

All in all Darkwood is a great scenic point to whisk away the time of day and to recharge the batteries...

I want to warn anyone thinking about stopping in here for a meal or bite to eat. We were on a private island tour with 'Elvis' (our driver from the cruise port), who called ahead and ordered three red snapper fish plates for lunch on the way back to the ship. We never saw a menu, and when paying after our meal I was astounded at the credit card charge of $508 ECD (East Caribbean Dollars) or approximately $188 USD when I later did the exchange calculation. I emailed the bar manager that same day asking for a review of our lunch charge, and his answer was they "charge a higher amt for a larger fish (which he claimed it was) than the menu price (that showed $35 per plate). It may have a beach side location, but nothing equates in my mind to charging 5 Star prices. The manager would no respond to any further emails. Avoid at all costs, tourist scam to me!

Quiet when visited and spent 5 hours at the beach, enjoyed Talapia fish burger and the lobster sub both served with chips. The fish burger was extremely good and the sub had a nice amount of lobster. We found the staff to be very friendly and knowledge on any food queries. Shout out to Steven who looked after us! 3 bottles of beer, cocktail, and mocktail, food as mentioned, 2 loungers/umbrella inc service GBP 70.00. This bar has received mixed reviews unfairly in my opinion, maybe due to sheer numbers of people visiting during high season and creating a knock on effect for food wait times. Parking areas available.

Food was really good and cheapest I've had on the island so far. Food was much better than the resort's buffet I've been staying at. Bar made a mistake on the bill that I didn't catch. Gave us another party's bill that was more money. The manager found me on the beach swimming and asked me to come back and made it right. 5 stars in my opinion just for the effort. Awesome clean beach with a floating water park as well as some Rocky structure right off the sand that made for really good snorkeling. Rocks were full of life. About a 20 minute cab ride from the cruise ship terminals but worth it.
