Pizza is decent but your experience will depend upon what unpredictable mood the owner is in that night. we used to order every Sunday but at the end of the season, we were dining in and our pizzas were brought to our table by the waitress UNSLICED. Yes, 4 huge round pizzas that were not sliced up so we had to pick up the entire pizza to take a bite?? I asked the waitress if they could bring them back and slice them but she told us Mauro was in a terrible mood and wouldnât slice the pizzas, and if she asked him to, he would yell at her. While we were eating, we watched him loudly verbally abuse a customer picking up their order. Then he snapped at my child for playing foosball- but if anyoneâs behaviour was childish that night, it was his. If you donât want anyone playing foosball, donât have a foosball table! This might be the norm at this restaurant, but for us itâs unacceptable. You know who else has good pizza? Papparazzi & Marinaside⌠where we will only be going from now on because the owners know how to...
Read moreI'm originally from Antigua, but emigrated to the US several years ago. I return to Antigua every winter to visit family and there is only one place I know I MUST visit - Mauro's.
From the roadside, this place is unassuming, but the pizza is truly world class. I have been fortunate to travel to many countries around the world and my benchmark for pizza is measured against Mauro's. "Is this better than Mauro's or not as good." I've yet to find anything better. This is legitimate Italian pizza made from a man who makes everything from scratch and who has probably made hundreds of thousands of pizzas in his lifetime.
Couple of tips:
This restaurant is open - air, so if the breeze isn't blowing, the mosquitoes can be up. Carry some OFF with you.
Also, the restaurant is usually closed for the offseason. They usually re-open in November and run through April.
Favorite Pizza: 'The Famous Mauro' - it's got everything on it including an egg in the center....

Famous Mauro Bakery is a great spot for fresh, authentic bread and pastries. I tried the Ham and Cheese Sandwich, and while it was a bit on the pricey side for the portion size, the quality of the bread made it worth it. The bread was clearly homemadeâsoft, fresh, and had that authentic, slightly crispy crust that you only get from a true bakery.
The ham and cheese were simple but well-balanced, with just enough filling to complement the bread without overpowering it. Itâs the kind of sandwich that feels like a comforting, homemade meal rather than something mass-produced.
The bakery itself has a warm, inviting atmosphere, and you can tell they take pride in their craft. If you're a fan of good bread and appreciate quality over quantity, it's definitely worth a visit. Iâd love to come back and try some of their other...
