There are restaurants who take popular dishes and try to perfect them. Once in a while, there are restaurants that challenge the status quo and do things in a different way. This restaurant belongs to the latter group and does it in an unbelievable way.

If you are tired of regular dishes and are looking for a refreshing taste in Salta, this is the place to be. Fresh produce of great quality is all you will find here. The burrata is one that could easily compare to one served in Italy. I am still trying to figure out what they did to make the accompanying mushrooms so delightful. All the vegetables have undergone the best care to make it onto a perfectly dressed plate which is presented to you with the greatest care.

This brings us to the service which was outstanding. The headwaiter was as excited to show us the dishes as we were to try them. Upon arrival of the steaks, he asked us to slice them so he could see whether the cuisson was up to standards. On top of that, he treated us as flavour engineers and brought us 3 different sauces to try with the steak.

The bartender was proud to serve us a gin tonic and he had every right to be. Surprising how innovative and perfect a classic gin tonic can be.

Before we received any of these dishes, we received a pleasant surprise to ready our palate. What this entails, I will keep a secret.

This is a place I can recommend to people willing to try new, exciting things. I will forever be...

Having had a fantastic dinner in this restaurant, we made another reservation for tonight, a Wednesday, at 7.30pm and received a message confirming our reservation details. We arrived to an empty restaurant and were advised that our reservation would not be honoured, due to a large group booking. The only option was to return after 9.30pm, two hours after our original booking, so we naturally declined. We were incredibly disappointed with this lack of professionalism given our very positive first experience in the restaurant and would be slow to return due to the reception that we received, as we feel that reservations should not be accepted and confirmed unless they will...

Uh, I don’t know where to start.. the food was AMAZING! If you ever want to treat yourself to something delicious this is the place! Of course it is a bit pricey but let me tell you it is absolutely worth it! Go there and be amazed! If you like Gin, order the Gin which is produced in Salta and tastes a bit different then normal Gin. Rafael the waiter speaks perfect english and is the perfect host. He will guide you to the perfect meal if you don’t know what to eat. So if you‘re in Salta and looking for a place to eat: Go to José Balcarce! You won’t be...

Really really good steak! Got the flat iron steak, the mushroom sauce was perfect, steak was cooked as requested (as ever in Argentina, its always a little less cooked than traditionally used to and some thicker parts were much less cooked), steak was well rested and accompanying potatoes delicious and garlicky. Price was decent considering how nice the food was. Also got a little free "starter" (pictured), small thing of pumpkin soup, corn bread, beans. Waiters English was great and they were all super friendly. Highly recommended.
