We recently dined at Kansas al Rio, a bustling spot with a lively atmosphere and a business-casual vibe. The restaurant was packed, and the energy was palpable, but our experience was a mixed bag. Here’s the breakdown:
Arrival and Service: We arrived for our 7 PM reservation and were promptly greeted by the hostess, who seated us at our table. Our waiter was attentive and quick to take our drink orders. However, the service, while decent, didn’t feel particularly exceptional—just what you’d expect for a busy restaurant.
Drinks: We ordered a lemonade and a ginger ale. The lemonade was refreshing but disappointing in quantity—75% of the glass was ice, leaving very little actual lemonade. The ginger ale was a letdown; instead of ginger ale, we were served a bottle of tonic water. Not a great start.
Appetizers: The Kansas rolls were a highlight! They were flavorful, well-prepared, and absolutely delicious. If only the rest of the meal had lived up to this standard.
Entrees: I ordered the Filet Mignon, cooked medium, with a loaded baked potato. Unfortunately, the steak arrived overcooked—more medium-well than medium—and was butterflied, which felt like a culinary crime for a filet. The baked potato was lukewarm, and when I informed the waiter, he kindly replaced it. However, the replacement wasn’t much better; the potato was dry and hard, as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours.
My wife ordered the Mediterranean Salad, which was decent but nothing extraordinary. It was fresh and well-portioned, but it didn’t stand out in any memorable way.
Dessert: The warm brownie served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream was the star of the meal. Rich, gooey, and perfectly paired with the ice cream, it was a delightful way to end the evening.
Overall Experience: Kansas al Rio has a lively atmosphere and a busy, energetic crowd. The service was adequate, and the staff seemed well-equipped to handle the volume of customers. However, the food was inconsistent—some hits (like the Kansas rolls and brownie) but also some significant misses (the overcooked steak and disappointing baked potato).
For the prices, which are typical of U.S. dining, I expected a bit more consistency and attention to detail. While it’s a decent spot for a casual dinner, it didn’t quite hit the mark for a truly memorable...

Read moreHad the most amazing dinner at Kansas Vicente López in Argentina! 🇦🇷 Everyone and everything was phenomenal. I can’t even explain how amazing the steak was. Seriously, they say Argentina has the world’s best steak and they’re not lying…🥩 Service was top-notch too! My only complaint was they ran out of chips that go with the spinach dip and we wanted “espresso martinis”, even though they had all the equipment, five star bar, mixologist, since it was not on the menu they were not able to make it. But that’s okay. I highly recommend this place! Get the ribeye, cooked rare with...
