Disappointing in a big way!
We had a "take away feast" here as it was my mother in laws 69th birthday and she wanted a thai green curry and remembered this place was pretty good, we had to take away as we could not eat in, this review is on the takeaway aspect of the place
We ordered 3 entrees and 5 mains, the chef changed it to 4 entrees and 4 mains, thanks very much, just stick to cooking whats on the list
Curries - very disappointed, lacked meat in a big way, mainly sauce, the vegies appeared to been cooked in the "soup" sauce rather than all fried together with the herbs and curry to give it flavour, heat was okay, not too hot but nothing to rave about, 6/10 , we ordered green chicken and red duck
The chicken Larb was the dish the chef decided to reduce to an entree instead of a main as ordered, was average
the pepper pork and garlic was okay, again nothing to rave about
the mixed entree was pretty bad, just basic spring rolls, fish cakes, puffs etc all evidently your frozen variety, nothing hand made here, the chicken satay skewers are very small
Special fried rice was very bland, no real flavour, has chicken and prawns but not many and nothing that really says "yes this is special"
Pad thai was okay, again lacking meat, but hard to mess up a pad thai
all in all for $150 to feed 6.5 people it had to be good, dont mind paying the money but it HAS TO BE GOOD, needed to be much better than it was, disappointing, next time we will try a different thai place, we...
Read moreThe food at Pranee is reasonably good, fresh and represents good value. It has been dumbed down to appeal to the Australian taste bud, which is not a criticism, as most authentic Thai dishes are way too spicy for most Aussies. Many dishes are a bit sweeter than perhaps they need to be, nevertheless the taste and flavors are good. My one criticism is with the owner. He's very friendly. He's very, very friendly. In fact he's a tad too friendly. We ate there twice and both times he wouldn't leave us alone. It's great to have a friendly host but this was way too much. He kept coming back to our table, each time patting me on the back as if we were life long friends and interrupting our conversation with his constant banter and boasts of how great their food was. This happened on both occasions. Now if we're in the mood we only order take-away, specifically to avoid his shtick. Perhaps some diners love it and I'm sure he means well but for me it's annoying, particularly the back pats. If you're in the mood for tasty Thai cuisine Pranee is a good choice but unless you're dining with someone whose company you don't enjoy, I'd recommend the take-away option and a drive to...
Read moreWhat could be more attractive than an amazing Thai meal with the top service providing by the friendly staffs! I came here alone tonight and I was lucky there are still some table left here, I started with the Curry Puff which is similar to the Indian samosas, it’s a beautiful curry mixture covered by the golden crispy coat, ps. It’s a really small one just like the dumpling size. And then the Tom Yum Gai soup came, I gotta say that’s the best Tom Yum I ever had basic on my Thai food experience, it taste so creamy because of the coconut cream and you’ll find anything that should be in a Tom yum soup like lemongrass, lemon leaves, galangai... you’d regret if you don’t order the soup there. And then the main courses are so yummy, I do love the sweet and sour combination in the pad Thai noodle, and the flavour of the spare ribs that I could not describe in words. No wonder I ate all the food I ordered and even the last bit of the sauce on the plate lol, the fellas shocked by how I can eat that much. In the end finished by a free black coffee. I would say this is the Thai food you’re looking for and you...
