Food:
Ordered the following: 1 x chicken schnitzel pack (comes with peas, carrots, chips and gravy) 2x seafood/crab sticks 1x potato fritter 1 x pasta salad
Total price: $26.84 (was reasonably well priced)
The chicken schnitzel used breast chicken and was a little on the thin side but for the price, is quite reasonable and still a generous serving to compensate.
Seafood sticks were nice and I quite enjoyed the potato fritter (not too oily and well salted all over).
Couldn't fault the pasta salad.
The only thing that I wasn't a huge fan of was the chips in the schnitzel pack. It was a generous serving, however, they weren't evenly salted (a lot of the salt pooled in the corners and had formed a salt crust). If the salt was evenly spread, it would have been great because like with the potato fritter, the chicken salt used was very delicious.
Service:
Service was very nice and polite.
Atmosphere:
Not a huge shop front but they do have a bench long enough to seat many patrons waiting.
Overall, the price is really where it's at. These days you'd be lucky to get a single schnitzel at a restaurant for the price I paid for my whole extended meal (I was quite hungry and satisfied with the amount of food I got for what I spent).
If you're looking for a budget friendly fish and chip shop then you should be happy with this.
Side note: One thing I did notice is that all their fish is pre-crumbed/battered (saw this in their fridge display). I'm personally not fussed at all as I understand that it speeds up the turn around time when there's a lot of orders backed up. However, if you would prefer fish that is battered/crumbed on order, this may...
Read moreI recently had visitors from Melbourne and on Thursday night we went for fish and chips at my local chicken shop which I have been going to for over 10 years. Never in all my experience in hospitality or retail have I ever been treated in such a disgusting and disrespectful manner by the owner when I tried to tell him about the service we got and the food was inedible and needed to go in the bin. He told me I should have bought it back and on the night in question I tried to ring them and no one answered the phone. As it was near closing, the only chance I had was to go in today to speak to the manager and advise of this. I am a 71 year old woman and this is his response to my complaint in person- "I have no tolerance for you today" even though I never once raised my voice and spoke respectfully. His misogynistic attitude was totally unacceptable and appalling. It shouldn't have surprised me as when I have been in the store he has spoken very rudely to his wife and other staff. His concluding words were "perhaps you need to find another chicken shop". Gladly, I'm worth way more than...
Read moreAfter 7 years of faithfully making wishes at the Golden Wishbone, it appears my luck has finally run out.
I made the rookie mistake of politely inquiring about some hygiene practices that seemed... let's say "creatively interpreted." This innocent question apparently activated a pack of four young staff members who responded with the customer service equivalent of a food fight - except instead of throwing mashed potatoes, they were hurling attitude.
Credit where it's due: one woman there clearly had her customer service training certificate and tried valiantly to wrangle her colleagues like a substitute teacher facing a room full of caffeinated teenagers. Alas, her efforts were about as effective as using a wishbone to conduct an orchestra.
So after nearly a decade of loyalty, I'm breaking up with Golden Wishbone. It's not me, it's definitely you. May all your future wishbones snap in the customers' favor - you're going to need the luck.
One star - and that's only because zero stars would break my wishbone-themed...
