Chunky Steak Pepper Pie $ 6.50

Well my #fridaypieday was full of pies! I ventured deep into Port Power territory and came out alive.

Called into The Red Mill Bakehouse in Ethelton S.A. I was recommended the chunky steak pepper pie. I was surprised how good the finished product looked. It looked as good as it was tasty 100%. The pastry was perfectly cooked had a really nice golden top and the underside was cooked perfectly, couldn't fault it at all. It had a soft texture and wasn't too flakey or dry. The filling, wow it was packed full, the chunks of steak were soft and tender, no grissley bits. The pepper gravy, just how you'd like a good pepper pie, that aftertaste, it lingers. It wasn't overpowering at all, just the right amount of punch on the palette. That's when you know you got something top notch in your hands ! The meat to gravy ratio was pretty spot on, the 3/4 of the pie held up together, so safe to say it would of held up fine. The serving temp excellent. (Latte was decent too 👍) If you like pepper and pies i highly recommend this one 👍

Will not be back. I remember when place was first open, how attentive and you felt appreciate. Not any more. 3 incidents in 2 weeks told me never to go back. 1st went to buy 12 shortcrust pastry shells, had bought last year charged less than a $ each, this year $2.50 each????. 2nd was ordered from counter lovely looking and well decorated cup cakes. Ordered a dozen. Collected and took to work, when I opened box Very disappointed 😞. 6 cupcakes decorated with plain pink icing, 6 plain blue. ?? Very dry and a waste of money. Where were the cute decorated cakes like I saw in shop. 3rd thing too a group to have coffee, place was quiet but tables dirty and not cleaned of used plates and cups, when I asked for tables to be cleaned and cleared you should have seen the dirty look I got from an older employee. They then proceeded to clear all the tables around us. I think the mill has forgotten the personal touches and just care about profit. Do Not Go if you want nice atmosphere and a caring...

I went to get a coffee and bacon and egg toasted sandwich with small lactose free coffee. They had pre made in the glass cabinets. I asked if I could get one done in sandwich form. Yes I could. I was told $11.90 I paid. They came back and said they had pre made ones with ham and cheese would that be okay to add the bacon and egg. I asked do I owe anymore she said no. I thought it funny as there was already ham, then to add bacon. I didn't say anything as I got the impression that they would rather use the ones already made up. Then she came back again and said sorry that will be another $6.00. I couldn't argue the point as I had already waited a while. When I got it you could hardly taste the coffee and when I opened up the sandwich there was one thin slice of bacon an egg and a little cheese. This ended costing me $17.90. I didn't see the value there. I won't...

Was passing and decided to drop in. First surprise, a large carpark at the rear. There was a variety of seating, outdoor at the rear, dog friendly at the front and small group and couple seating indoors. I opted for the beef and pepper pie and my wife the chicken, potato and leek soup. The pie was very good and had sizable pieces of beef. The soup came in a large bowl with pieces of toasted sour dough. The service was quick and the cost reasonable.

Great atmosphere in this funky bakery, with crispy pastries and pies and delicious foccacias. The coffee is really good and the sweet options are particularly dangerous! Good spot to stop for lunch, or pick up some croissants for home. Sometimes it can be a little crazy getting served when it's busy, but staff are friendly and helpful and food comes out toasted and fast.
