Disappointing – does not deliver on value and quality

Positives – good location, nice décor, solid staff.

It was not a promising start as I glanced down and noticed that my fork was not washed properly and was half-covered by a sticky mess which seemed eggs served earlier today. We have ordered a mixed plate of six tapas and a kid’s meal – neither dish offered good value for money and neither delivered on quality for the price. Paying $49 for four tapas ones would expect either a very generous serving or an outstanding feast of taste, sadly neither was true. None of the dishes was truly memorable and the serving size was much less than expected. Paying $9 for a kid’s meal also put it at the high end of the scale without anything special about it – no free drink, ice-cream serving etc.

Our sticky fork incident was quickly forgotten by otherwise lovely staff. Nothing was mentioned as we were paying our bill and no additional apology or discount for the embarrassing gaffe was offered.

Would not recommend it and we are unlikely to...

We did the Valentines Dinner last night at Portobello as we do most years and they never fail to impress!!! This year was outstanding in food, service, seating, pricing and surroundings. The 3 courses were as good as any Michelin Star Chef and Restaurant could serve, it was faultless. The Margarita was perfect...so few places can make them right! A lovely selection of wine and spirits without being overwhelming. Being right on the waters edge the views are of the Port River Marina, historical bridge and historical buildings. Our table was beautifully set with a complimentary red rose which I could think take home. This lovely modern restaurant is full of charm and style with outdoor seated areas and has a smoking area closer to the water and near enough to Portobello to not feel ostracised. It was a most wonderful Valentines Day dinner and will be doing it again. The restaurant specialists in pizza, pasta and tapas all of which are mouth watering. Go to Portobello, you'll be so...

Well...... I've never been to Portobello Food Kitchen Bar before. ..first time for me ...but not my lunch companions. ......

It's hidden away .....and if not for the signs I didn't know where I was going. ......what a brilliant surprise! !!!

The moment we arrived the staff were engaging friendly and funny ...... wow I loved that ..... the menu ...... well I just didn't know what to choose .....it all sounded mouthwatering ......

I went salmon ...OMG .....glad I did .... perfect ..... I tried a friends pasta. ....OMG ....delicious. .....

We had 2 waiters look after us .... they were great .... BUT Mu (sorry if wrong spelling) you're just perfection in customer service...... owners don't lose her she is an asset ......

We had to move as there was a party they were setting up. ..... she was soooooooo accommodating and we moved outside .... God I can't fault her .....

We had a lovely afternoon in a lovely venue with FANTASTIC CUSTOMER...

I had the (dis)pleasure of dining at Portobello recently. For an establishment that appeared to offer fine Italian fare based upon their menu and business name, it became apparent quickly that this was not the case. FYI Portobello, the word is ESPRESSO, not EXpresso! And it just became a Fawlty Towers experience from there. 1) The server had to go and find out the dips from the kitchen/phone a friend as "people don't usually ask". 2) The garlic bread was as underwhelming as a Scomo handshake, clearly a coles/woolies ciabatta cut into slices and topped with an overly greasy spread. 3) The server didn't know the difference between crab and prawns when bringing out 2 of the mains. 4) The honey/vodka whiting made me sick. This place is tucked away and hard to find for a reason.

The staff were fairly polite. Didn't know it was table service until I went up to the bar to order my food. I got a beef wrapped in prosciutto, the beef tasted funny and was pretty chewy. I had to try and cut my meal with a butter knife which was hard. My sister got the chicken breast with a white sauce which I didn't mind. We got a garlic bread entree which was amazing. Move on to desert....it was a creme brulee, the taste was amazing, but the sugar on top was too thick and the consistency was very thick and grainy. I wouldn't order anything from the grill section of the menu again but wouldn't mind going back to try their pasta and pizza. The views were amazing too, right on the water. A secret little place.

Great view, relatively clean and probably a nice place for a drink and cake. Coming from hospo the server was great. That's where it ends, the food was over priced, small portions and not nice for any of the meals. Garlic bread slices could fit two in your mouth, the pasta is half of a bowl, and pizza was a disgrace. Base was basically a wrap, basil replaced with Italian herb seasoning, most untraditional margherita pizza I've ever had.
