My partner and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary at Windy Point and were quite underwhelmed by the service and food provided to us.

First of all I had booked over a month ago and requested several times throughout my booking to have a table with a view. I tried calling them the night before to double check but their phone line just asked me to leave a message every time I rang which was never responded to. Needless to say we were quite disappointed when we were placed at the very side with barely any view (mostly just other peoples’ reflections) given the amount of time booked in advance. When we asked if we could move to another table (even on the second tier) to have a better view given this special occasion we were told that wasn’t possible despite noticing that 75% of the top tier wasn’t being used the entire time we were there.

Second of all, the service was really mediocre. We opted for the wine pairing to pair with the food (or at least that was what we thought it was going to be). My partner and I were drinking our wines slowly and savoring them, and we would be not even half way through our drink before they started pouring our next glass and the timing was off sync for when were receiving the meals so they were not being matched properly. It felt like we were being rushed when we really wanted to take our time and enjoy ourselves. I believe there was no more sittings after we left. They also never asked us how the food or wine was when they collected our plates/glasses.

Thirdly, the food wasn’t too bad but it wasn’t what I would call ‘fine dining’. There were elements we liked in every course and elements we really didn’t. The pork belly dish in particular was a huge let-down. It also would’ve been nice to not have to pay extra for some of the items on the menu when it is supposed to be a 5 course ‘set menu’.

Lastly it was a bit disappointing to have been charged an extra amount for requesting a gluten free menu. I thought it would be an included cost for somewhere ‘fine-dining’, particularly because most of the dishes already were gluten free. I would give this review a 1 star but they did provide us with a nice touch for our dessert with a ‘happy anniversary’ written in chocolate.

After wanting to visit Windy Point for years it was a huge disappointment and unfortunately would not...

An enjoyable night. I was taken out for my Birthday gift from my Dad as a special dinner.

We were Greeted warmly by the bar lady. Where we sat as our tables were still occupied. The couple before us were taking longer than expected

So our window table we booked was unavailable for our time slot until a lot later, we were offered a table above the window seats, with offers to move us lower when available

In the end we stuck with the table we received and it was more than adequate. Still great views of the lights of Adelaide

Atmosphere wise the restaurant was 5 stars ...Muted sounds, great ambient lighting busy but calm aura, world class setting

Service was fantastic, male gentleman was our main server I assume the manager, most pleasant and capable gentleman, relaxed in service but attentive. Other servers were polite but not to his standard, only issue they seem hurried in their spiel on what we were having or could eat etc like they were on a script, pushing the words out to fast without believing what they were saying my Dad struggled to understand what they were saying and asked me when they left what they had said.

Expect for young lady at end who served us dessert, who seems to genuinely understand her recommendations

Prices were on the upper side, I cannot complain about the food quality ( it was very good but not brilliant) or presentation so I feel you were paying for the view and in the end was worth it. Couldn't recommend going every month as other reastraunts comparable would be less expensive but same standard

My only real gripe however minor was we stated it was a birthday celebration on notes provided when booking.

No mention whatever of this occasion was made by any staff. Although I noticed next table had a birthday recognized

So attention to detail was lacking may seem like not much but at this price point you would expect more. Perhaps a failure in communication from front end to service staff. Hence a star off.

Would go back. Not in a rush. But definitely later in the year. Food was fine nothing spectacular (being honest not rude still very good) it would be for the views and the Manager that night incl the bar lady who's positive aura...

I’ve been to Windy Point restaurant over a dozen times between 2005 and 2019 and it has fallen from a place of very high standards to very average in a great location.

The restaurant is tired and hasn’t been made over in the time that I’ve been coming here. The quality of things like luxury hand towels and soap in the bathrooms have disappeared to be replaced by standard cheap paper towels from a dispenser and hand soap from a supermarket. Cutlery is cheap and cheerful and glassware is not the best to represent the qualities of the wine. This is not the expectation of one of South Australia’s most prestigious and expensive restaurants.

The service has badly declined with long wait times for drinks, menus and order taking. The same person takes food and wine orders so no somellier advice on the vast wine list any more. House made sparking water that is flat and short pours of wine by the glass from almost empty bottles that are not actually filled to the correct measure. No comment and no attempt by the staff to fix this either.

The service is bored and impersonal. No longer does someone refold your napkin when you leave the table. The service has lost its polish and sparkle that it used to have.

Menus have become boring and predictable. I almost knew what would be on the menu before I got there. There seems to be disinterest in the menu formulation and the kitchen seems content to keep pumping out the same formula. Year after year. Take a look at how Adelaide’s menus have moved on and change. It’s boring. The bill was predictably very high. I felt dissatisfied with the ambiance, service and food. The maître’d didn’t even attempt to ask for a tip which is customary at Windy Point. I wouldn’t have paid it anyway.

I do hope that Windy Point returns to its once glorious self. It’s now a predictable and underwhelming tourist restaurant living on its past. Even the awards at the entrance are all for years well in the past.

Do yourself a favour and choose somewhere else for that expensive celebration dinner or special event. There are much more deserving restaurants that are...

My initial attempt to leave a restaurant a one-star review - never done that before. First off, they didn't provide a contact number when I booked, only email, which was a real hassle. 1. During the booking, we made it clear that we'd be bringing our own wine for a special occasion. The restaurant agreed to a $30 fee for opening the bottle, which seemed fair. However, when we asked if we could snap a quick pic of the wine opening process (just the hand and the wine, no faces), they initially agreed, but later, without making a fuss, took our bottle to a corner to open it. When I asked again about taking a photo, the guy opening the wine had a really bad attitude and kept grumbling under his breath. By this point, my experience was already soured. 2. We had our 7-year-old with us, and when we booked online, we couldn't choose between the regular and children's menus. We were stuck with the $125 per person adult set menu. 3. This was my third time at this restaurant; I visited in 2016 and 2021, but this time was beyond disappointing. The service hit a new low, and the food was downright terrible. I'm not a picky eater, but this time it was a struggle to even swallow. Both my 7-year-old and my partner couldn't eat, and at one point, I felt like I was going to dry heave. Imagine frying a fatty piece of meat until it's halfway cooked and then drowning it in honey. Many dishes were just nauseating. I'm embarrassed about the $125 per person charge. 4. On my previous visits, I would have tipped $50 because the staff was genuinely friendly and made the dining experience enjoyable. But this time, during checkout, the guy who opened our wine rushed over and insisted we tip using the swipe machine. This made me so uncomfortable, and I don't want to deal with his bad attitude and complaints anymore. So, this is the last time I'll be a patron, and I tipped $50 as a final regrettable decision. The restaurant seems to rely on its unique view and has lost its touch with food quality. I'm a generous diner, but I have taste and sense. I won't be coming back.

Dinner at @windypointrestaurant: haven't been back here in years! The food was good - nothing wrong with it, but I thought it could have been a bit better given the premium location. The service was top notch though, and the views were amazing! . Parmesan and cauliflower tart, with figs, jamon, grapes, and Persian fetta: really yummy dish! The tart filling was soft and creamy, but not overpowered by the parmesan. The fig and jamon on top made it quite good! . Ham hock and smoked chicken terrine, with pea aioli, burnt onion, dukkah, pomegranate syrup: good dish, but I felt the flavours are not very creative. The ham hock and the smoked chicken both tasted fairly similar. Not a bad dish by any means. . Moroccan carrot soup, smoked salmon with wasabi in an avocado cone, milk bun: the soup was interesting with a very mildly spicy flavour. The smoked salmon was delicious! The milk bun was a bit like a brioche. . 12 hour Coonawarra lamb shoulder, hummus, carrot relish, glaze: this was really delicious! The lamb was super tender, and it was so tasty 🤤🤤😍😍. . Braised chicken leg, celeriac, mushroom ragu, rocket hazelnut pesto: the chicken was excellently made. Good flavours and very tender. Not a super creative dish though 😅😅. . Western Australian barramundi, bisque cream, kohralbi remoulade: nice crispy skin barramundi, and it was very tender. Great dish! . Chocolate melange: a selection of desserts on a platter. I liked the creme brulee, but overall the other things were just too simple. . Cinnamon apples, molasses meringue, creme patissiere, ricotta, fig, honey ice cream, quince syrup: this was quite nice. I enjoy having apples in my dessert 😋. Much more creative than the other dessert option. The meringue was too sweet though 😅.

Dining at Windy Point is nothing short of extraordinary. Perched high above the city, the panoramic views across Adelaide and the coastline create a breathtaking backdrop — particularly at sunset when the sky glows and the city lights begin to sparkle. It’s the perfect setting for a romantic evening, special occasion, or simply an indulgent night out. The ambiance is refined yet welcoming, with soft lighting, thoughtful table spacing, and a sense of calm that allows you to fully immerse in the experience. Every detail — from the glassware to the service pacing — is meticulously considered. The menu showcases modern Australian cuisine with precision and creativity. Each course is beautifully plated and layered with flavour. Standout dishes included local produce such as Kingfish, lamb, or Coorong mullet, each complemented by an extensive wine list highlighting South Australian labels. Service is flawless — polished, attentive, and genuine without being overbearing. Staff are knowledgeable and clearly passionate about providing a memorable experience. From start to finish, Windy Point delivers on every level: food, service, atmosphere, and that unparalleled view. A must-visit destination for fine dining in Adelaide.
