Shuai Hu Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Armidale

Quick service, lovely staff, the hostess even brought my take out order to me in the parking lot as I had my dog with me (she's an assistance dog, she could have been in there and staff weren't at all confrontational about an assistance dog in their restaurant, they were totally accepting of her, added a star for that, because that's rarer than you might think! So yeah she could have been in there, the only reason we weren't was because I was having a smoke)...

They lost a star because there was nothing even remotely spicy yet sweet about the Mongolian Beef I ordered... It wasn't nasty or anything, it tasted fine, but just 'fine', it was very 'meh', it was just so bland, but was still totally edible, well cooked (the green beans were a little soggy but no biggie, and probably my fault for letting it sit a bit before I ate it)... The fried rice tasted like fried rice in every Chinese restaurant everywhere, but wasn't overly dry... Food was still hot and fresh even after waking it back to my motel and having a shower before eating it - kinda glad I didn't try to eat it straight away, it must have been super hot when I was given it, but this is a plus because I got to get comfy before I ate and I still got a hot meal...

All in all, pretty good... But Mongolian really should have some zing to it along with a little sweetness, and this just didn't...

I'm only passing through so I won't get a chance to try other menu items...

But it seems a solid choice if you're passing through and just staying a night, little pricy, but you'll have left overs for breakfast!!! (Would have lost another star for price but they earned it back by being wonderful about my dog - cost was negated by service basically)...

The restaurant is impeccably clean and as I said the staff are super friendly...

Also the place is recommended by the locals, I asked a few people walking around where a good feed could be found that was take out but not horror show food like Maccas or Hungry Jacks...

So maybe I just got unlucky and picked the one thing on the menu they don't do real well, because word of mouth about them was really complementary from the random people I asked on the street, so they must have some solid dishes that they cook

(Just as a side note, it's usually a super effective way to avoid getting food poisoning if you ask some local people where good food comes from! Free life hack for you all...

Went for lunch arrived at 12:15 was second people seated, ordered straight away sat down and waited and waited 40 mins later and other people who were seated after us getting their food questioned the girl at counter and her reply was we are busy you’ll just have to wait, we’ll I had to get back to work so we left without being able to eat. Food: I ordered multiple meals and all food was fresh and well cooked. A wide range of options, authentic and well above average.

Service: The person serving me was very attentive and communicative. A quick turnaround on my order and great service overall.

Appeal: The shop presented in a clean and oriental interior and layout. Would recommend to anyone in the area.
