What a remarkable building — the original Masonic Lodge carries a rich sense of history and promise. When I first arrived, I felt a genuine sense of excitement about the place. Sadly, that initial hope was quickly dimmed by the absence of even basic hospitality.
Like too many venues today, there was no warmth in the greeting, no eagerness to engage — just silence. I wasn't expecting the red carpet, but even a simple "I'll be with you in a moment" would have been enough to make me stay. Instead, I stood there, noticed but ignored, while staff were present. There was a young group outside, and I appreciate things get busy, but acknowledging a customer goes a long way.
I had intended to enjoy a coffee and cake and purchase a lovely antique tea caddy priced at $190. But in that moment, it became clear that my presence — or my custom — wasn’t of interest. So I walked away.
It’s not a harsh criticism; it’s a common and growing disappointment across the hospitality industry. If we're not making customers feel welcome from the moment they step in, then what are we doing?

The service was great. They got the kids meals started while we worked out our mains so the little ones weren't hangry. Happy and friendly service.
