Travelling from Adelaide to Melbourne, this used to be our regular stop but was very disappointed with the attitude from staff members. Firstly, I found out that only pastries were available and no ready-made sandwiches were the first mistake. The mature lady that was serving is very customer oriented in regards to hot food being heated, we had a younger girl that told us in a stern tone that no hot food was available so I decided to ask another staff member when receiving my coffee, why other customers were walking out with hot food that were lined up behind us and we apparently couldn't have any because the kitchen closes at 2:30pm, when asked the question she proceeded to throw her hands up in the air with a very rude expression and said well I don't know. Walked out a with a coffee only. I'm sure I'm not the only customer who would have been disappointed. This is not acceptable, and I would not recommend until they fix their service. Rude people won't attract people, and I won't be returning and will be taking my...

Evidently built over and around the old Bordertown Police Station, with the loo a converted gaol out back. Excellent selection of fresh baked goods: the sweet stuff from doughnuts to lamingtons and kitchner buns; the dining fare including the Aussie stalwarts of meat pies and sausage rolls, plus tasty hot sandwiches like my favorite, two visits running: veggie focaccia. Friendly staff, plenty of old timey atmosphere in the large dinning area. The back door puts you into small boutique, which itself leads to Tolmer Park, which would have been a great place for my son to burn off some energy, if he were still a kid.
As an American, I occasionally get caught short by the limited trading hours in Oz. The bakery's grill and oven close at 1:30pm, which is my only service whinge. So, if you're planning to have lunch here on your way from Melbourne, get an early start and keep your average speed as close to the Victoria highway speed limit...

Stopped in for the first time in a few years on our way back to Adelaide over the long weekend. The bakery is like a time capsule, full of interesting historical items that were great to check out while stretching our legs. The way the old police station has been built into the new structure is pretty neat too.
There are heaps of seating options both inside and out, so even during busy travel times thereās usually somewhere to sit. The outdoor area by the pond is lovely, and the public toilets nearby were decent.
Staff were nice and patient, especially with the kids taking their time to choose.
Food was a bit hit and miss. The beef pies were amazing and the kids inhaled them. They also enjoyed the mini jelly cakes. On the other hand, the sausage roll was just average, and the custard in the pie and slice had a gritty texture that wasnāt...
