I emailed the restaurant about this review wanting to understand if it was just our group but as I only got a standard reply of, we will investigate and respond. I did give them a few months to come back to me but as they haven’t been bothered I thought best to leave the review I sent to them directly as well. Their offer to email them is redundant as that is just lip service because I have already done that.
We had our Christmas party here on 18/12 and understandably we had alternate set menu. I can honestly say this has to of been, one of, if not the worst meal of my life. Speaking to the other members in our group most would agree. I also can excuse the slowness of service due to the time of year but more on that later. Let's start with the first course which was a choice of sliced vegetables, terrine or bruschetta. I think the bruschetta was one of the better dishes but that is not saying much. The Terrine looked like cat food and tasted terribly sweet and fatty with nothing to cut through the disgusting texture and flavour. The candied cherries were a terrible idea to bring a Christmas element to the dish and I think out of the six served, all six went back virtually untouched. The vegetarian dish was sour and again nothing to balance it out. It all tasted like what should of been an accompaniment to a main dish that was just all on its own and terrible. The bruschetta was thought out a little better but again I couldn't give it more than a 2/5. At this point I had hoped the main dish options were going to save the day but alas the below average bread served first up was suddenly looking very appealing. The options for main were porchetta (1/5), over cooked steamed fish (1/5), vegetarian dish that was bland and chewy (0/5) and some sides that for whatever reason came out 10 minutes after the mains were served. The highlight of the day was the potatoes but again by the time they came out we had to eat them with the greens that were also served too late. We had three options for both entrée and mains and all six were hopeless. I suggest you stick to what you know and don't attempt to do poorly thought out and balanced dishes. I hate to think what we paid for that meal but whatever it was it was too much and I could never bring myself to come back. There was no parking and ultimately the walk out to the car gave me a chance to find something edible on the drive home. So disappointed and underwhelming for what should have been a great...
Read moreThird poor experience & I’m out.
Someone needs to kick this place back into shape because it (food in particular) has been going downhill for at least a couple of years.
Over my last 3 visits, I have introduced friends & family to the venue only for at least one meal on each occasion to be extremely sub-par. The final straw was today, a Sunday, when a 10% ‘Sunday Surcharge’ was levied on top of already excessive prices for average pub fare.
A $22 meal of buffalo chicken loaded fries came out with chicken that was overcooked, dry, & as tough as old boot leather. What used to be a meal of chunky tender chicken pieces served with lashings of great orange buffalo sauce now has a minute dash of sauce which was almost caramelised on the desiccated chicken.
I tried to consume some of the meal but it was inedible. No staff member enquired as to how our meals were so I had to alert floor staff to the piss-poor quality of a dish which should never have left the kitchen.
I really hope that kitchen staff took note when the meal was returned so meals are prepared properly & quality checked before being taken out. In addition, I hope floor staff are trained to check with diners after meals are delivered, as they used to do.
My party, like many others I’m sure, was encouraged to book for the offer of a free kids meal. Our party of 7 had one kid, aged 10, on her birthday. We were not even offered or instructed how to obtain the dessert included with that meal. She had her dessert at Macca’s down the road.
The floor staff member I flagged down & complained to about the loaded fries was apologetic & swiftly arranged for refund for that meal. It would’ve been end of story if it were a one-off & not a continuation of a downward trend in my experience. As locals who have been burned 3 times now, we won’t be back to dine at...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal BrewDog fan for years—excellent beer, great food and a welcoming atmosphere. My friends and I were excited to try their weekly trivia night (we regularly attend Quizmeisters trivia at their other venues and have never had a negative experience), but unfortunately our experience didn’t live up to the usual high standard. Despite noting “trivia” in our booking, we were seated at a table with an obstructed view of the screen. A staff member kindly shifted us back a bit but we ended up right next to a speaker, and the combination of music and the host’s microphone was uncomfortably loud—so much so that we couldn’t wait for the night to end. Not to mention the host continually obstructed the view of the screen even after being asked by multiple tables to please move.
What made it more frustrating was seeing several perfectly good tables in the heart of the trivia area left empty the entire evening. When we asked about the volume, the host explained it was necessary for guests at the back; however, we popped back there later and could hear just fine at a much lower level. It felt like sensory overload rather than the fun, social quiz night we’d been hoping for and were used to at other venues.
That said, the food was as delicious as ever, and the beer selection remains top-notch. I’ll definitely be back to BrewDog—just not on trivia night, unless they rethink the seating and...
