We went to try a new place for breakfast this morning and chose this venue due to positive reviews. The cafe was cosy, bright and clean but very busy given we arrived at 9am on a public holiday. Despite being busy, the single staff member serving and clearing tables was very welcoming, but unfortunately failed to mention to us the need to order at the counter. We decided to try the ‘baked eggs’ with an extra piece of toast to share and two of the house blend coffees. Coffee was fine, nothing particularly special, and arrived a couple of minutes before our food. The food wasn’t to our liking as the flavour combination was quite a strong mix and we were expecting something a little softer on tastebuds. The flavours of chorizo, capers, onion, basil pesto and garlic far overbalanced the roasted potato, eggs and relatively small piece of rather dense focaccia. We were happy to have the extra piece of sourdough given we shared the dish, but overall the flavour was a bit...

Mixed bag this week for Sweetshop. Finally a new cook yay. I had the Portobello stack. It was amazing, if anything too many elements, too generous for me 😀 Something could have been left off and it still would have been great. Service however was below par. My friend's dish came out so quickly, even before the coffees, but mine took 15-20 mins as expected. When I asked the waiter why they hadn't come together there was no apology, just a rebuttal that they'd been separate orders. Indeed, separate orders but on the same table and made at the same time. One of my kidults works for (probably) the busiest Cafe in Bardon and said kitchen would always know which meals are on the same table. The other one waits for a v well known chef so not surprisingly thought this was terrible. Note that I've not had this happen at Sweetshop before so it will be a training issue but a shame when the new kitchen staff are doing a great job to be let...

Nice little cafe serving up good coffee and food with a lot of unique options. Can access from the city via the 475 bus route. Plenty of seating options both inside and outside, each with good sized tables. The owner/manager there is pleasant and knowledgeable. I like that they offer several different styles for their mocha latte, including white, dark and regular. No macadamia milk here, but they do have other nondairy options including almond. Loses a star because they impose a surcharge on card transactions. Almost everyone today pays with card, so they should just set a proper menu price and do away with all the silly hidden surcharges, similar to what every business already does with GST. Also, their tax receipts aren't itemized which makes expense reimbursement for business travel more challenging. They should consider upgrading their pos system to something more modern like...

Really great cafe. There is undercover parking you can use and the view from the tables is great. Food was delicious and while they did almost accidentally feed gluten to a coeliac, they came out and stopped up before we had any and remade it without the offending ingredient. Phew! Staff were very friendly.
