I went in for dinner and originally the atmosphere was lovely, and homey with a touch if elegance. However, after being sat at a table the maitre d' asked if we would like water, for another table to be sat by a waiter and offered water 10 minutes after we sat and 10-15 minutes before we were given water. When they didnt have the bottle of wine I originally ordered they brought me 2 other options, one was $25 more expensive and the other was double the cost... without telling me the prices I did choose however I was under the impression the mchenry bottle I was getting would be $85 not $130! The only thing that saved my experience on my night was the waiter being very good at his job. It did not help that during the dinner some people kept on looking over at my date because of some scars on her face. Making her feel uncomfortable and wanting to leave so much sooner than we had planned. The food on the other hand, the best components of my dinner were the bread and the oysters, the saffron spaggetini was bland and lacking base, the braised beef in the rigatoni for my dates meal was over cooked and dry, it's like the chefs passion is gone! But the thing that made me even write this review is I ordered a margherita pizza to take home, I didn't look in the box as this was going to be my lunch today. I opened the box and I can see straight away they have made me their "parmigiana" pizza which had eggplant on it... I cooked it up in my oven as I have always cooked/reheated my pizzas and when taking it out, the flop on the undercarriage was ridiculous and the smoke provola just dropped off the slice, it wasn't appealing and like the food I ordered for dinner just felt like it was lacking the love you get with a pizza. When I spend money in a restaurant that's rated as high as this one I would expect to get food better than I can make at home. This was disappointing and I won't...
Read moreVery mixed feelings about this place. My partner and I went to this place for the first time for their wood-fired pizzas. We were blown away when we walked into this beautiful and huge Italian restaurant and bar, the setting was right and we were excited to order. The waitress set us down and asked whether we would like water.. to which my partner chose.. only to find out later that the water would cost us $11. We were completely unaware of that as we had not had a chance to even look at the menu before the waitress came up to ask. You kind of expect the water to be free, especially for a bar.. so it was a very misfortunate surprise. We ordered a pizza to share, pleasantly redeemable. It was jam packed with flavour and quenched my wood-fire pizza desire. My partner also ordered a watermelon mocktail which was very flavourful and refreshing. By the end of the night, the whole pizza, drink and water cost us more than $50.. so if you are looking for a cheap eat, this is certainly not the place. Perhaps next time a heads up on the water would have made our experiences better, I don’t think I will be returning considering my budget. However, it was nice to be able to treat my partner for a night with a more...
Read moreWent for the first time to this lovely cafe. In a group of four, it allowed me to sneak a peek at a few dishes. My company included one lactose and gluten sensitive diner, and an ovo-lacto vegetarian. We each had delicious and beautifully prepared dishes.
A few more options for vegetarian eaters would be good.
I had the wonderfully prepared asparagus and poached egg, the salad of avocado and fennel, with house bread on the side: the asparagus could have been a little more generous in portion, to make it equivalent to the meat dishes in terms of, “tummy fullness”. The salad was so fresh and delicately flavoured, and the tiramisu and chocolate gelato (it’s gluten and dairy free, but you’d never know it, it was so creamy and utterly stunning in flavour) were standout endings to our meal.
Staff is attentive, knowledgeable and kind.
