MISLEADING SIGNAGE I told the barista that I was there for the "Croissant or Toastie with Coffee" deal which is sign posted as $14 and then asked if the Reuben toastie is included, to which he said "yes, it is" Only AFTER the toastie was put in the toaster and my coffee was being made did another guy (owner?) come up to put my payment through for $20?? I questioned the price and was swiftly told that the toastie I selected was "Deluxe" which costs more. This is misleading because NOWHERE was a sign to advertise this deluxe toastie deal for $20, there is however "Deluxe" written above the Reuben toastie in the sandwich cabinet but nothing to indicate that the toasties underneath were "regular, or normal" and that these were the only ones included in the $14 toastie deal. Even the owner agreed "that they should probably put a sign up for the $20 deal" after I said I wasn't told that my toastie would cost more. I reluctantly paid $20 for the barely there Reuben toastie because it was already being made and the owner took no onus for the clear miscommunication on their end. An unexpected $6 is a lot in today's cost of living crisis when you're trying to have a cheap but nice lunch so a bad experience like this will put Silk on my Do-Not-Visit list.

We treated ourselves to breakfast at Silk Cafe and we weren't disappointed! Great atmosphere, good service and amazing food. We had eggs Benedict, 2 perfectly poached eggs, a decent serve of bacon that was cooked just till it was caramelised, crispy sour dough bread with fresh spinach. But the best thing was the sauce. OMG it was sooooo good! The chai latte was real chai and my husband had a cappuccino made with Zymil- a option which was so nice to see. Don't be fooled by the location amongst the industrial businesses- it's a little gem. Highly recommend.

Read really good things about this cafe and wanted to try it out as we were in the area. Overall alright service, good food, although $20 for a lettuce and 3 peices of tomato salad was a bit unreasonable. The chicken tasted great and the dressing was too but as an overall dish and for that price, would look elsewhere. Orange juice was amazing though 🙂

Stopped by Bushwick cafe in Canberra for a quick coffee break amidst some renovation work. Went for a quad shot flat white, which turned out a bit on the bitter side and too hot for my liking, leading to slightly burnt milk. The beans were probably not the freshest either. The vibe of the place, contrary to the current images, doesn’t quite hit that specialty coffee mark. On the veggie front, it’s basic – think more along the lines of simple, no-frills fare rather than gourmet.

But, here’s the thing – most of us popping into the cafe are here in the middle of renovations etc. We’re not necessarily looking for fancy stuff, just a good, hearty cup to keep us going. The staff here are super friendly and do their best to provide a welcoming atmosphere. It’s a decent spot for a break when you’re in the thick of hard work and just need a moment...
