Rodney’s Garden Café — Restaurant in District of Majura

We've been several times to Rodney's and it has the potential to be wonderful. The food is absolutely delightful. However the service continuously lets it down.

We first booked a table following a Christening and were promised one large table near the play area for the children. This did not happen - we were given a mix of tables away from the play area. We asked to be moved so we could be sat together and so we were then moved to tables of different heights etc. Extremely disappointed as many of our guests were unhappy with the situation but it was a special day so we did not make a fuss.

However, today we have been let down again. We booked an indoor table for a surprise baby shower. I received a voicemail to call back. The lady on the phone continuously told me I didn't have a booking (I did, I came in in person to book and you called me to discuss my booking). I was then passed to a colleague who stated that our booking did exist but we would have to be seated outside instead as they have taken a booking for 30. It was claimed that this booking was already in place before confirming that we could have an indoor table. I stated that we couldn't sit outside as we have young infants and obviously a pregnant lady (it is meant to be 5 degrees on Saturday with a 55% of rain). Completely and utterly disappointed in the response. I guess shame on me for trying again.

After today's visit I've redone this review. I always have the salmon and cous cous when I come here. Today it was terrible. The cous cous was stone cold, like it had just been taken out of the fridge. With the warm salmon itcwas just disgusting and being stone cold it just tasted bland. I provided feedback but got nothi g back. Then I ordered cake and cooffew. The cake came out nearly 10 minurea in advance of the coffee. When the coffee arrived it was terrible. It was burnt and bitter and undrinkable. A super disappointing experience. I'll be thinking twice before I come back out again. The only good thing is that it's always lovely in the garden setting... even if the birds do steal your cake while you're having to chase up your coffee because you couldn't get the attention of any of the wait staff. I always enjoy it here. The food is great, the staff and service is lovely and it is so peaceful sitting in the courtyard, listening...

My baby shower was in the private function room yesterday and we had the best time! I couldn’t fault a thing. I had 31 guests and everyone was raving about the food (you have to get the scones!). Each and every staff member went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful day. Emma went so far above and beyond - she was a pleasure to deal with from the second we enquired about having a function with them. They let us come super early to decorate the space, provided trolleys to get things in and out from the car and even came and suggested I should have a non-alcoholic sangria! It was a rainy and freezing cold Canberra day and we were so warm and dry inside. The pricing is extremely reasonable and they catered so well for my guests that had dietary requirements. The attention to detail is just what you want when holding a function and I’ll be recommending this venue to everyone. Thanks for providing one of the most memorable days...
