City Hill Cafe, located right opposite the security check at Canberra Airport, accepts the Priority Pass card, giving you $36 per person to spend. We tried the steak ($32) and pan-fried trout ($29), but it was a public holiday, so there was an extra 15% charge. Unfortunately, the food was really disappointing. The steak was dry and overcooked (we asked for medium rare), and so tough it was hard to cut and chew—just bad. It came with four crispy potato balls that were average at best. The pan-fried trout was equally disappointing, with a small portion full of bones. The only nice thing about it was the roasted almonds, but the broccoli was overcooked and oily. Honestly, don't bother. Go somewhere else. 2nd visit with breakfast menu: (12/10/2024) Breakfast Burger: This one’s a winner! Two fried eggs, bacon, and a hash brown all stacked in a bun with some greens for a fresh touch. The flavors are nicely balanced, with just the right amount of saltiness. Definitely a solid choice if you're craving something hearty. Shakshuka: Really tasty! The sausage in tomato sauce was well-seasoned, and the poached egg was spot on. Only downside was the portion—it felt a bit small, and I could’ve definitely eaten more. Big Breakfast: Kind of average. It only came with one strip of bacon, which was a little disappointing. It wasn’t bad, but nothing special either. One thing that stood out was that all the toast came buttered, which might be a dealbreaker for some (like me, since I'm not big on butter). Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience, but it was a bit pricey for what you get

Ah yes, the classic airport burger—because nothing says "Welcome to your destination" like a $30 disappointment. First off, let's talk about the grease. This thing was so oily I half expected a classic Canberra environmental protest to break out around my table. Naturally, no napkins were provided—because why would they be? That would be convenient. Instead, they were hidden at the counter like some sort of scavenger hunt prize for the truly desperate. Now, the taste. Or rather, the absence of it. The beef had all the flavor of a microwaved flip-flop, and the only attempt at seasoning was a mysterious sauce that can only be described as “What meets Why.” Overall, if you ever find yourself craving an overpriced, underwhelming meal that leaves you questioning your life choices—congratulations, then this burger may be for you! As always just our experience, l hope yours is way better, good luck finding the napkins.

We were very early to the airport for our flight back to Melbourne on a Sunday morning, and looked for somewhere to have brunch. We were both surprised and delighted at the excellent quality of the food served at this lovely little cafe. The two entree portions were generous and delicious (we had the bruschetta and the salmon). The Cajun burger was very tasty and well prepared and the chips were crispy and really yummy. The chocolate and hazelnut brownie was superb. Georgia, our waitress, was helpful and friendly, as were the kitchen staff when I thanked them. Sorry there are no food photos; we scoffed it all down before I thought about it! Highly recommend this hidden Canberra Airport gem. 5 stars from me!

Everyone was super friendly except one blonde girl with a shaved undercut who served me and was rude. On the menu I saw loaded fries with bacon so I asked her if she could do me just fries cause I’m vegetarian. And she said rudely that fries are potatoes and vegetarian, and so I said ‘yes but the menu says it comes with crispy bacon and I just want plain fries’ and she said ‘you know you can just order fries…’ she said it so rudely so I politely said ‘oh sorry I just saw the loaded fries on the menu I just wanted to order plain fries’ and she said ‘fries are vegetarian’… yes ok so let me order just plain fries. Didn’t have any manners didn’t even say thank you when we finished. THEN I sat down ate my food, and saw that my mum went to the same restaurant and ate at a different table, realising she was here I walked over to her and she said to me ‘I just had a fight with a girl’ and I already knew who it was because all the other workers were SO NICE. So I asked her which one, and she said ‘ the blonde girl with the shaved pony tail’ and then I told her my experience and asked about hers, my mum said that she went to her and asked if her food was ready, the girl said ‘it’s been ready for ages’ so my mum was like ‘well I had my number on the table why didn’t you bring it out?’ And the girl was arguing back and forth, and my mums food was cold.

I wasn’t sitting with my mum cause we pick our own places to eat at the airport. But the fact that I had a problem with her being blunt and rude, and then my mum did:.. sounds like we are not the only people who were treated poorly. Damn it’s the airport people come here excited for their holiday, not to be treated like gum under this girls shoe. Don’t fire her, she’s probably having a bad day but she needs to fix her attitude it affects how people start their holidays or end it. I can expect this low service at McDonald’s but I paid $30 for a coke sandwich and chips and a horrible taste in my mouth...

Hello, I was stranded at this airport during a hectic and unexpected layover, and I have severe celiac disease. The airplane wasn’t able to accommodate me (due to unforeseen circumstances), so I hadn’t eaten for over 20hrs. Luke overheard me asking if city hill was able to accommodate celiac. He came up to me and went truly above and beyond. He ensured my food was prepped by a chef trained in food safety and organized my food being prepped in a fully cleaned kitchen. He took my autoimmune disease seriously and he even went so far as to give me options of food to eat!!!! Sooo amazing. I am deeply appreciative. It’s so hard travelling with such a restrictive disease, and he made me feel welcomed and ensured I felt safe and comfortable with the food. It’s extremely stressful travelling with a disease like celiac, and I’m so thankful there was a safe food option for me, thanks to Luke, here at Canberra airport. (Please normalize or standardize this!) He was so kind and patient during this hectic day as the airport was not expecting a full flight from san Francisco to unexpectedly stop for a several hour layover for refuelling and staff changeover. Thank you so much Luke!! I am truly so thankful and I hope he gets a big raise for his amazing service and general kindness and patience and...
