Magruta - Have Travel, Will Pie, and we are travelling again after a great weekend. Headed for Melbourne via Dunkeld , and various other towns along the way. What we were not prepared for was, in this beaut smallish country town was Izzy's Cafe. We had experienced sleet on the road between Penshurst and Dunkeld. That in itself was a surprise, but, I say but, Izzys knocked my non existent socks orf. The socks should have been on, it was that cold! The Sausage Roll, well, great pastry, well cooked, and really tasty sausage filling, without being over done etc! A happy 8 on the MSHScale. That's pretty darn good! It was pretty darn great, taste wise. Now the Curry pie. Outstanding pastry, very tasty filling, just the right curry flavour for me, the viscosity was as a pie should be. I think I mentioned the outstanding pastry. Tasty and propa cooked. A very solid 9 on the MHSScale. Coffee, double shot, in a cup, hot, however, not quite as flat as I like, but tasty as coffee should be with a solid after flavour. Great service, smiling persons, nothing too much of an effort, and a fire to keep us warm. As a package, this place has it all wrapped up. Not just pies and sausage rolls, and Coffee, but great looking cakes and pastries, bacon and eggs on toast, sandwiches, toasted croissants and and and...... A cold fellow traveller and his wife/missus, had Coffee and lemon meringue tart, and apart from the general chit chat, the feed back,on taste of the tart was something else. Straight out of a Julia Child oven! Do NOT drive past this place. Give em a burl. Your taste buds will not only love ya, they will ......... well I will leave it there! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Cheers. Travel with Pies! Bewdiful! PS; In Aussie slang, "give em a burl" = try it out, give them a go.

On our way from Warrnambool to Halls Gap we stopped in Dunkeld for a short walk and some lunch, and came across Izzy’s Café. It turned out to be a great find and one of the best food stops of our trip. The café has a warm, welcoming feel with friendly staff and a really well-presented space. The counters and shelves were filled with a wide variety of options : hot food, sandwiches, wraps, salads, cakes, slices, chips, and even a large selection of frozen and packaged meals to take home. There’s also ice cream, coffee, and cold drinks, so it caters for just about everyone. We decided to eat in, and I ordered the meat pie, which was one of the tastiest I’ve had in a long time. Perfect pastry, full of flavour, and very satisfying. The pasty was equally impressive, with a crisp finish and hearty filling. We also tried the chicken burger, which was delicious, juicy, cooked perfectly, and served with fresh salad. Everything came out looking as good as it tasted. The café has a nice mix of dine-in seating and takeaway options, making it convenient for travelers or locals. With the quality of the food, the friendly service, and the wide range of choices, Izzy’s Café is definitely worth a visit if you’re passing through Dunkeld.

Nice pizzas, nice staff. All items other than the pizza's are a bit over priced. I guess they're directing their business towards tourists so they can make a buck or two. For locals who come here to get a coffee or some lunch you don't get a lot for your dollar. I bought a lentil and pumpkin salad and a slice of cake for $18.50. The size of salad container was very small. I'm sure it will be nice but probably not worth the money you pay for it. I had to return the pumpkin salad. It had little taste, had mushy pumpkin and a whole lot of pumpkin skin. Once I bought a cappuccino and it was boiling hot. Once it cooled down it was ok but the staff need to learn make their coffee's at a proper temperature and not scolding hot.

We dropped in for a late morning breakfast after receiving some recommendations from friends. Whilst the foods we ordered was good, the service was great, and a very good selection of ready made or make to order foods was available it didn't quite meet my anticipated expectations. The vegetarian breakfast was a little short on some items especially the spinach. Maybe I'm just a little fussy these days after experiencing many other restaurants/cafes. If the owners read this I would also recommend changing the brand of drinking chocolate powder, it is pretty ordinary. That aside, I would return there and be specific about what I wanted on my plate. As I said, selections if house made foods, cakes and sweets was great and the ambiance of sitting area with the wood fire warming both room and soul was good. If you do drop in check out their pies and pasties, they looked yummy! My wife enjoyed her Friande also. There was a constant flow of customers while we were there and very few plates returned to the kitchen with...
