My Hubby Lee and I come down to Margs once or twice a year for some R+R. We have hit most of the main food spots including the Beer Farm, Colonial Brewing Co, La Scarpetta Trattoria, Swings & Roundabouts, Settlers Tavern, Good Fellas (recently closed) and Cheeky Monkey to name a few. Each one of them has their pluses but for us all of them miss on one level or another.
For whatever reason we have not come across 'The Common' until this trip. We went there for dinner last night and we were not disappointed. In fact, it was the first time (in a long time) where we both looked at each other and were very happy to be dining out. You see Lee is a brilliant cook and he is Canadian. We both worked on cruise ships so we are used to North American food where the flavour, portion sizes, price and service are all equally as important as one another. These are four things that Australia doesn't always get correct.
We ordered the Mozarella Sticks to start. They did need a tad bit of salt but I am willing to overlook that as they were handmade! This is very rare in most restaurants these days. Lee ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken Burger and I ordered the special which was a tray of pulled pork tacos. Both were absolutely delicious! To be honest I loved my tacos but I was a little jelly that I didn't order the chicken burger because, other than the Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken in Las Vegas it was the BEST chicken burger we have ever had! To put this in perspective we have travelled to over 50+ countries and tried chicken burgers all over the world. To say that this one falls in our top two is HUGE! Oh and did I mention the sauce that comes on it?!? You could bottle that!!!
The owner Tony clearly cares about his food and the service that his bistro offers. It truly shows and we couldn't be happier to have found a place that we can come back to time and time again to remind us of our travels.
Thanks to the team @ The Common. We will be...
Read moreA charming place in the Prevelly/Gnarabup area. What can I say, I was doubtful when I traversed to this modern establishment, which could be considered more brasserie than bistro. I thought I'd get the regular pub fare - something unremarkable.
But, you know what, this place was a step above. I don't know who's in the kitchen, but my best guess is a diligent, Anthony Bourdain inspired artisan, who is not satisfied with just serving up mediocrity and enjoys the South-West coast as much as any West Aussie does. The Parmagheddon I ordered was elevated by a delightful crumb. I was so impressed that I returned for another meal during my week long stay. I was equally impressed by the flavour in their Chilli Verde Beef Burrito, very tender beef indeed.
What really impresses me however is that all their main meals are affordable for what they are. You will receive change from $30 for most offerings.
Their service is also very personable, so much so, I'd be as open and frank with the staff at The Common Bistro as I would be during a second session with my therapist. Honest and friendly service. A credit to them during these times when it isn't always the easiest to maintain a casual staff roster.
There's restaurant seating with table service, but also more casual bar and outdoor seating available. The Common Bistro is definitely a...
Read moreEarly this week my family and I were staying just outside Prevelly and decided to take a night out to relax and enjoy a feed to where the breeze and sunset could accompany us, so The Common it was! We had a wonderful experience eating and drinking with great service from all behind the bar and people running the tables. All were friendly and bubbly and nothing seemed too hard to do. Food ordered was absolutely smashing, nothing could be faulted from the fish tacos to the simple crunch of the fries! Post meal we enjoyed a sunset and attempted to get a local taxi back to where we were staying only 5 or so minutes away and had absolutely no luck. 1.5 hours wait to get a taxi back!! We went back to The Common and had asked if there was any other alternatives to getting all four of us back to home. Simply to most beautiful gesture and response from the manager, Micha assured us she could assist. It was to our suprise suprise that she simply would drive us home out the kindness of her heart. Truly amazing and we were and still are so thankful 🙏 if that isn't the peak of top class service by going above and beyond, I don't know what is. Will recommend The Common Bistro for many many years to come👌 ...
