Dropped into Little Chinese Restaurant in Currumbin on a recent stay, not expecting much more than your standard suburban takeaway. We decided to dine in, I was with my son and told him he could order whatever he liked. In my head this would mean something like honey chicken and spring rolls. I was caught completely off guard when he confidently ordered the quail, a duck in plum sauce, and the sizzling beef steak. When I asked if he was sure, he simply said he hadn’t tried any of them before, and wanted to give them a try. I added some chicken wings and fried rice to the order, just in case the experiment didn’t go well. We were the only ones dining in; most of the business seemed to be a steady stream of older regulars collecting takeaway. For most of our visit, the owner was chatting on speakerphone with family out the back for most of our meal, not a criticism, it just made the place feel more lived-in and real. Honestly, if my own parents ever ran a restaurant, they’d probably do the same. Onto the food - it definitely exceeded my expectations. The quail was seriously impressive, crispy, expertly seasoned, a genuine standout. The chicken wings were golden and crunchy on the outside, moist inside. The fried rice was simple and generous with prawns, nothing to complain or write home about. The duck in plum sauce turned out to be the perfect introductory duck dish for my son - balancing the richness and the sweetness well. The sizzling beef steak was the highlight: tender and packed with flavour. If you’re someone who usually gets takeaway here, the food comes out fast, and you could do a lot worse than hanging out and trying the steak straight from the sizzling plate. They’re serving up Chinese food the way most Aussies expect from their local. It was familiar and comforting, but there were still some authentic elements and some real skill behind what they are serving. It’s got the kind of polish that says they know their regulars and know what they are doing. The real magic of the experience was sitting opposite one of my favourite humans, watching him try new things, chat about life, and give his opinions as he went, discussing everything from Dungeons and Dragons, to what he might try next time we visit. Experiences like this are memorable and fleeting, and what makes a quick dinner at the local Chinese restaurant feel like something more.

The worse Chinese ever!!! Spring rolls over cooked and no filling? My satay beef had hardly no beef what so ever in it, more pineapple then beef, and the container wasn’t even full. Plain and boring, So disappointed
