Such a shame because even though we live so far now, we still come this place every time (for 8 years) because the food and the staff were just amazing. However, as of today, we were treated very sarcastically by the waitress. Just before we came in, all the waitress just stare at us differently. When I told them I have a a booking, the lady said “at 06:30?” (In the most sarcastic way, and I kid you not!) I said no I booked for 6:45 then she said oh someone wrote it at 0630. Take note we arrived at 07:00 because we came all the way from Brisbane, that’s how we loved this place! We had our orders, firstly the entree’s (three) and then the rest of our mains. The waiter didn’t asked if they are all going together, for some reason was still in sarcastic manner when taking orders. For some reason, I just thought they knew that entree comes first then mains. Then slowly the food came, one entree arrived, I have hungry kinds and I just had to ask if I did order 2 of that entree. The waitress said, they are coming, they’re still cooking it, I don’t need again to say because this had been the same waitress that I had been talking too politely but still answers sarcastically I told her I am just checking if I ordered 2. Then, to my surprise, all the entree and mains were slowly coming in to our table at once. I was like, why are the food coming out all at once. They did apologise and then they became very nice to us. Just the whole experience felt really awful, although are tummy are happy. But sorry never again to this place! Such an awful staff, maybe we are the only ones that’s different in race that’s why we are treated like that. I have no idea, but it’s definitely an...

This is gonna be a long-winded review, but TLDR don’t go if you actually want to eat Malay food

So let’s begin, just drove to and back toowoomba and craving something spicy and hearty. Kopitalk isn’t open and this restaurant has a review that acclaims the laksa is nice so decided to try it out.

Gotta be honest I would’ve went into the Thai place few doors down if it wasn’t full. But anyway, went in asking to dine in and she went ahead and looked at her watch, I thought what was that for? But she decided to wait me to a table. Ordered the laksa from another waitress. Came out quick less than 10 minutes. And oh my days, it was bad.

Mung bean sprout was withered like you would have it after 2-3 weeks in your fridge. Meat was marinated for god knows how long, soup was sweet like cup of coffee with 5 sugars, 70 percent soup. Absolute let down

Then saw that they are hiring casual waiting person, I thought interesting they’ve already have 4-5 waiters going around wiping tables and stuff. Got the reason why right after I came out from toilet, I would assume it’s the boss or manager speaking rudely (in Australian standard) to the waitress, high wait person turnover is my guess

As for other stuff, atmosphere was not kampung at all, it would be more of a middle-high class restaurant if this is in Malaysia. Light Malay rock playing in the background is meh. Dragon Chinese character hanging in the male toilet suggest owner could be Chinese but I’m generalising.

Now, I am born and bred Malaysian, take this review as you like but personally will not recommend, 1 star for quick meal...

Bundall - If you are of Malaysian decent, DO NOT EAT HERE. Kari Puff - reheated and half frozen. Roti Chanai - Burnt, really burnt YUM YUM - expected traditional sweet curry. Received the WORST thing I've tasted ... can only describe it as an extremely budget version sweet sour with extra - extra salt. Fried rice was littered with Pork Luncheon cut whatever which angle.

It took over 25 minutes for us to receive the so called 'Main' My wife who is Malaysian could not stomach more than 5 mouth fulls of it - which was picking the pineapple out and some beans - the chicken did not look appealing. Leaving her plate full. I managed about a quarter more than her. Subsequently both felt very ill from the food there and I do not think we even should have paid. Especially considering there were no EFTPOS and they were Cash Only.

I have seen great reviews for this restaurant chain and many people have eaten there, I guess in this instance - you truly get what you pay for.

My wife is Malaysian and cannot understand how this establishment even obtained 3 stars from Google.

It is the following day, and I still feel sick! Wishing we could turn back time so my wife didn't feel like throwing up for the last 20 hours. Ruined our Saturday as we cut our adventures short to return home and remain in our respective bathrooms for the...

We were surprised at how many other people were eating at Kampung on the day we had lunch recently. We dined at the Slayter St address. The restaurant was bright, clean with good space between tables. Our waitstaff were friendly, helpful and energetic., with nice smiles on their dials. We both had garlic prawns as an entree. My partner had a noodle stir fry and I a vegetable stir fry with garlic and oyster sauce as mains. The food was beautifully cooked, was fresh and hot temperature wise. There appeared to be no added salt. However , or excessive salt which meant we had no thirsty after taste which is excellent. However, I could not taste any garlic or oyster sauce so the food was a tad bland. Maybe that is the key to their obvious success...nothing would annoy or offend anyone. The prices are more than fair, the service was good, there are plenty of options for couples or large groups, there is a good range of food options to choose from including a good selection of vegetarian meals. Parking was a breeze. There was no back ground music which I like. However with the hard surface of the walls with nothing to absorb the sound, the noise of people talking was quite loud. No issue but for the hard of hearing.

The place is a bit basic, and the menu is always the same but they have a fairly vast selection. The food is good and the service is efficient. Garlic calamari were actually fried, that was slightly disappointing as the garlic prawns weren't and I was expecting something similar. I tried the sambal curry last time I went and I found it wasn't as amazing as a Thai curry can be, but that is just my preference of Thai food over Malaysian. The prawns in the curry were a bit tough. The Laksas are good.
