The 2 stars is for the waiting staff who brought it back from the brink for me... May have been a one off as I have been many times before (over a year ago-ish). Went on Friday night and won't be going again. Where to start..., Ok.
The tablecloths are made of a weird polyester kinda fabric and felt sticky.
There were lots of flies.
The lighting is way too bright and makes the place feel like a fast food joint.
The huge TV on the wall, with subtitles, is really distracting.
The food (ordered pork ribs which I've had a bunch in the past and loved) turned up just weird - pork ribs alone on a wooden platter, chips and salad on a plate a moment later. Chips were covered in chicken salt (I didn't ask for chicken salt) - although when I asked the waitress to ask if the kitchen could replace the chips (as I hate chicken salt) the kitchen did replace the chips but I was advised by the waitress "the kitchen said the salt is Vegan salt". I said "I've never heard of Vegan salt", she said "me neither" and we both shrugged our shoulders. Chips were really bland and cheap...BBQ sauce on the pork was bland and cheap tasting.
The restaurant had entertainment for the night and that was just odd. In honesty, I felt a bit bad for him as I think it may have been his first outing as a solo guitarist. Just gonna add here that I love live music and I love people who try. Problem for me was that he was not a good guitarist (for the songs he was having a crack at) and he couldn't sing. Adding the Kazoo sent me over the edge.
I have been going to Sandy's for years, on and off, and I know it's not a Michelin starred restaurant but it's always been good honest food that felt like it was prepared with care.
Friday felt like it was a restaurant that has lost its way and is cutting corners.
All of that said, Mrs enjoyed her pizza and the waiting staff were polite and friendly.
Sorry, won't be back - it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThere are meals that define a restaurant, and then there are moments that redefine what foodāand indeed, flavorāitself can mean. At Eau de Vie, tucked discreetly between a minimalist coffee bar and an artisanal soap boutique, I encountered not just a drink, but an experience that shimmered like liquid revelation. I went expecting hydration; I left spiritually baptized.
The evening began with simplicity. A single glass, clear as the conscience of a saint, was placed before me by a server whose reverence bordered on monastic. āOur house water,ā he intoned softly, as though the words themselves might disturb its surface tension. I smiled politely, expecting the usual filtered offering, perhaps faintly perfumed with chlorineās ghost. I was wrong. So gloriously wrong.
The first sip was a revelation. The liquid touched my lips like silk whispered across marble. The temperatureāprecisely 9.3 degrees Celsius, I later learnedāwas engineered to kiss the palate without numbing it. The water flowed over my tongue with the grace of a mountain stream glimpsed in slow motion, its texture impossibly smooth, yet somehow vibrant with microscopic liveliness.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhere do I even start? The food was absolutely phenomenal ā the chicken parmi was the stuff of legend. Perfectly crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, and dripping with rich, cheesy goodness. Every bite was a masterpiece.
But letās be real⦠the aircon was the unsung hero of the night. Iām not exaggerating when I say it was the best air conditioning Iāve ever experienced in my life. The moment we walked in, it felt like stepping through the gates of paradise ā a glorious wave of cool air kissed our souls and instantly erased every trace of the outside world.
This wasnāt your average pub aircon. This was elite-tier, five-star, polar-vortex-level cooling. It wrapped around us like a gentle arctic breeze, perfectly balanced between refreshing and cozy. I swear I could hear angels singing every time it cycled on.
And the atmosphere? Electric. The sound of passionate voices from the kitchen added so much life ā you could feel the energy, the hustle, the love behind every dish. It all came together to make the perfect experience: incredible food, vibrant vibes, and air conditioning so perfect it deserves its own...
