First and foremost, I will write this review as a if I went to this café on any ordinary day treated as you would expect any old ordinary time. Then I'll get to the best part at the end.
The food was delicious, I had the mushroom on pane and was very satisfied. I added bacon but in the end probably didn't need to as the base meal unchanged would've been filling and tasty enough. My partner got the waffles and they were a fun, basic sweet treat without being made to rich or overwhelming! No complaints about the coffee either, could well and truly make it my daily morning brew.
The service was delightful, the staff were young but very mature and there were smiles all around including service by the boss. The atmosphere is also very welcoming and comfortable, plenty of space, great for dogs and kids. I would recommend trying to sit toward the back on the bar to catch some sunlight and be looking over the trees/parkland.
Now, for the part of the review where it wasn't an ordinary day and we weren't teated as we'd expect any old ordinary time. We went on Anzac Day '23 and one of my most disliked things about businesses in this country today is the need to monetize these sorts of special, solemn events for their own gain. Birds & Bees did the exact opposite of this, without it being advertised I approached the counter to order for my partner and I. As I went to pay I was waved off and told there was no need and that out of the "kindness of the bosses heart" he had decided that for Anzac Day, everything was free for everyone... EVERYTHING. The owner of Birds and Bees was willing to detriment himself and the success of his business for the benefit of others on a day that commemorates exactly those actions and behaviour. I was blown away and filled with a lot of faith restored back in humanity and the fact people still treat this day for what it stands for.
Legends at Birds & Bees, I'll be...
Read moreI am not sure what this is. Is it a restaurant, a cafe a bar or something else. It located in an out of the way location and I would not have known it was there if not for the person who took me there. We visited for brunch on a Friday morning. There was barely anyone else there so we had no problem finding a table. My first impression was disappointed when I found the menu on the front counter. It is simply presented on small sheets of paper on a clipboard. It gave the impression of we don't really care. There are breakfast, brunch/lunch and dinner options and drinks on offer. The prices seemed reasonable. We ordered two drinks, a pineapple and mint frappe and a mango smoothie. The frappe was excellent. The smoothie not so good. The smoothie was far too milky and lacked mango flavour. We ordered the workman's big breakfast and the brisket sandwich to eat. The brisket sandwich was satisfactory without being anything more than that. The workman's breakfast was better although I would have preferred the bacon being better cooked. The best part of the dish was the rice and beans. It is unlikely I will visit again. I have had much better meals for brunch at other...
Read moreI received a nice greeting from the waitress and was told to choose a table and she would bring me a menu. I had my 16 week old in a carrier, pushed her pram to a table and five minutes later the menu still hadnt been delivered so I went inside to get one. They weren't terribly busy and when I went to order the same waitress asked if I was dining in or taking away. I thought surely she would remember me, having seen me and given me eye contact when telling me to choose a table and she'd bring me a menu. I let that comment go also. She took my order, which I gave slowly to avoid confusion that she had when taking the previous customers order. Another waitress delivered my food and soon after coffee, with some monotone enthusiasm and I couldn't help but wonder if she was happy to be there. The food was presented well and tasted great. Even though this cafe had tasty food, the service was poor/needs to be worked on and I will not be returning to this cafe...
